OT: Winchester Model 69

They only made them a couple of years and then went to the 69A. I pick one up the other day for the grand kids to use. I took it out to one of the tanks on the ranch to test it out. Saw a nice big Texas bull frog at about 60 yards with his head sticking out. Shot it right between the eyes. It flexed and jumped right out on the bank for me. I skinned the legs and battered them up, then had some frog legs and beer for lunch. MMMMMM GOOOOOOD! That is a great shooting little rifle. I tested on some cans and it performed great. I had one just like it when I was a kid. I shot 22 rockets in it because they were cheaper. That was some fun. :D

Hi rangerider7,
What kind of sights does your 69 have? I just saw a Winchester rear target peep sight for a Model 69 on Ebay. looks real interesting. Starting bid was $50.00.

I have a 69A that was my grandfathers. Between my mom and myself, we figure he purchased it in the late thirties to late fourties. Not sure if they were produced during the war years. It is the target model with the Winchester 80A rear sight. This gun has killed numerous squirrels, bluejays, and a few foxes and wild dogs. It is a great .22 bolt action but the trigger is fair at best.

I have all three OEM Winchester clips for it also. 10 rd. long, 5 rd. long and 5 rd. short. I did refinish the stock about 3 months ago.

I've got its single-shot brother, the Winchester Model 68. It once was my grandfather's and I have an old black and white photo of my mother when she was about 12 years old with that old Model 68 and a Snowshoe Hare she shot. That Model 68 became my first gun and the one I learned to shoot with.

frog legs for lunch with beer!! that is better than with biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Very nice rifles.
