Re: AR-15 or Garand
No Steve, I am saying I don't have the guns you have. My wife shoots the ARs just fine. But for a gun for her, in enclosed spaces, my wife finds the little pistola cal carbine a good fit. She hits what she shoots at, so if I suggest the left eye, that's where the bullet will go. She doesn't need a 14 pound main battle rifle to defend herself.

I know. I'm inclined to thread drift. I thought his question got answered a couple days ago. LOLMy feelings too. However, the OP's question wasn't limited to just HD and so I'm assuming (yes, I know) that he's looking for something for any option including bugging out.

Good points.jeepnik wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 12:51 pm But the Kel Tec isn't really a rifle. Pistol caliber carbine, but not the range an striking power of a true rifle cartridge. In fact, the 5.56 is probably just barely a rifle caliber really more of a carbine round and that's being generous. Seems lots of folks find it quite manageable in handguns. 7.62 not so much.
I think one could make a case for:
“9mm inside the house”
“5.56 in the yard” &
“7.62 afield”
But on the other hand the less complex the better...maybe:
“300 Blk out to 100 yards” &
“7.62 past 100 yards”

Re: AR-15 or Garand
The biggest negative to the AR-15 is the fragile, un-ergonomic charging handle...
I have toyed with a side-charging receiver but of course it has its own bolt carrier so you can’t just swap in your favorite mil-spec boron nitride unit. However it seems reliable so far.
The Mini-14 is less accurate without some tweaking, but for practical purposes I like the ergonomics of the Mini-14 enough it offsets the accuracy difference.
The other thought for “inside the house” is just a pistol with good laser/light on it; maybe a suppressor ideally.
I’ve also been testing out the 45 ACP carbine in the form of the “1911 upper” by Mech-Tech; with a double stack 1911 you get 20 rounds of ‘flying ashtrays’ with a magazine that only protrudes about 2 inches below the grip.

Looks like bad guy dow, or meat on the table. Cant imagine what 50-55gr varmint bullet would do to a body. Hope I never have to. I gotta see if the 55fmj and 55spp print fairly close together. Be nice to alternate them in a mag or 2.Pitchy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 1:28 pm Took the Bushy out to sight it in after removing a big scope i had on it and couldn`t hit nothing front sight is a blur.
S i compromised and installed a small 4 power scope on it and at least hit the target but not very good, target was at 100 yards.
Kinda hot out and not very comfortable so could be better but wanted to get it on target for now.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Thanks Todd, one of the worst groups i ever shot, can`t see the front sight at all.
I`ll put it on a good rest one of these days and see what it will do.
