Henry Single Shot rifle and shotgun recall

Post by AJMD429 »

Henry Repeating Arms Company (“Henry”) has recently discovered a potential safety issue with H015 model Single Shot Rifles and Single Shot Shotguns. Henry is voluntarily initiating a recall to protect your safety because, under certain conditions, it is possible that some of these rifles and shotguns may discharge without the trigger being pulled if the hammer is partially cocked and released. To prevent the possibility of death or serious personal injury, you should immediately stop using your H015 model Single Shot Rifle and/or Single Shot Shotgun and not load or fire them until they have been upgraded.
Henry has identified the cause of the issue, and it will be corrected by replacing various components of the fire control system. Henry is ready to begin upgrading the rifles and shotguns in the order in which they are received.
If you are currently in possession of a Henry H015 Single Shot Rifle or Single Shot Shotgun, please contact us immediately to arrange to have your firearm upgraded, free of charge, click:
Alternatively, you can contact us by email at recall@henryusa.com, by phone at 1-866-200-2354 (M-F 9:00am-5:00pm ET), or by mail at Henry Repeating Arms Company, ATTN: Recall, 107 W. Coleman St., Rice Lake, WI 54868. Please make sure to include the model and serial number of your H015 rifle or shotgun.
As a token of our appreciation to our loyal customers, when you return your rifle or shotgun to be upgraded pursuant to this recall, Henry will also perform an unrelated performance upgrade to improve the trigger pull of your rifle or shotgun.
If you have sold or transferred your H015 rifle or shotgun, please contact us at by email at recall@henryusa.com, by phone at 1-866-200-2354 (M-F 9:00AM-5:00PM ET), or by mail at Henry Repeating Arms Company, ATTN: Recall, 107 W. Coleman St., Rice Lake, WI 54868, and provide us with the name and contact information for the person to whom you sold it so that we can notify them of this recall.
We appreciate your assistance and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Thank you for choosing to be a Henry customer, and for your patience and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Andy Wickstrom, General Manager and Vice President
Henry Repeating Arms Company

I wonder what they got wrong ? that type of gun has been around a long long time, perhaps the old ones I'm using now may have the same fault but with correct gun handling it doesn't show up.... :?

Half the time (or more) it is just a bad-outcome from a lawsuit, where the gun may have had zero defects, but the fact that they lost the case compels them to take 'corrective action' lest any future accident be blamed on them even more easily since they 'failed to fix the [nonexistant] problem'...

"The safety issue leading to this voluntary recall was discovered internally while testing the existing fire control system for a trigger pull upgrade."

from the description it sounds like the gun can be "fanned" by pulling back and letting go without engaging the full cock notch. which sounds like there is no transfer bar, OR the transfer bar is mis-timed...

The trigger pull is pretty stiff on both of my rifles, .223 & .308, this however can be adjusted by screwing out the caged hammer spring. The hammers are very narrow which leads me to believe that it's quite possible to have it slip and travel forward which is no problem if trigger is not depressed.
