Found a match for my .44 Magnum Vaquero
I bought the first one about six months ago and it's probably the best shooting fixed sight revolver I've ever had. Always wanted a pair of nickel Colt Single Action Army revolvers with 7 1/2" barrels and a black double pistol belt to go with them. Being that they are a bit on the pricey side, the Rugers will do just fine especially in my favorite pistol caliber.
The new one came with the box, is super stiff and doubt it's been fired much. If at all. Already ordered a set of grips to match the other one.
Looking forward to getting to the range again!

Great looking pair ya got there! Do you shoot full power loads out of those things? Never really understood the demand for the old 44 super vaqueros.

I don't think I said anything about military issue Colt single actions.COSteve wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 9:58 pmActually, the first 1873 Colt .45s were issued to the US Cavalry, not the US Army and they were the one's with the 7 1/2" barrels. All of the Cavalry models had 7 1/2" barrels. Later, the Colt SA Army versions were issued and they all had 5 1/2" barrels.
As a former 3rd and 4th Armored Cavalry soldier, I'm positive of that fact.

I don't believe it's a mistaken reference at all. The Colt 1873 is also known as the Model P, Peacemaker and the SAA. Colt still catalogs it as the SAA/ Single Action Army.

Shortened and refurbished SAA s were sometimes referred to as "artillery models" though that is not necessarily the case. https://www.americanrifleman.org/articl ... ery-model/COSteve wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 12:59 pm You said you, "...wanted a pair of nickel Colt Single Action Army revolvers with 7 1/2" barrels...". A Single Action Army Colt revolver refers to the Army model which has a 5 1/2" barrel. Colt referred to the Single Action 7 1/2" barreled model as their Cavalry model. That's what I was explaining. I understand that many refer to the Colts using the wrong model. Similarly to those who refer to a 16" AR carbine as a Mil Spec carbine when it's not. Simple mistaken reference, that's all.

Nice looking pistols. I really like the grips on the top one. What are they made from?

Re: Found a match for my .44 Magnum Vaquero
I get the grips from AZ Grips on ebay. Unfortunately that's the only place I can find them. They start with bonded ivory and heat treat and age them.
I have a couple sets now and they've held up well to the heavier recoil.

I have a couple pairs of those, a 5.5 inch set and a 4 5/8 inch set. You need to get a set of cylinders made up in 44-40 and you have it all covered. I got my second set of cylinders in 44-40 in blue and the guns are stainless. So, I even have the pinto angle covered.

Really a cool pair. Last Ruger pair I had were 4 5/8" 44-40. Tough as an anvil. Only 7 1/2 I have is a Colt 45 and no mate but I can watch Marshal Dillon with it.
