I remember dad being extremely precise in cleaning of firearms and he passed that on to me. I think the boys got the same message. Honestly, I have never inspected their firearms. But both being former marines I figure they learned a pretty good cleaning regime there.

The one thing that upsets me is seeing a neglected firearm. I expect to find a little bit of gunk now and then even in my own guns but when I see some of the guns that my local gunshop has brought in by people who should know better, that are only fit for deactivation and hanging on a wall.... glad to hear that you go the extra mile Steve...

The thing that always gets me is my suppressed firearms. There is enough more blow back of that bird powder and stuff that they get way dirtier than my other firearms. The worst is probably the integrally suppressed Ruger lever action 22. The suppressor itself is extremely easy to clean, but I find I have to clean the action Every couple hundred rounds or so. I’ve even thought about doing a hole in the side of the bolt the same diameter as the little tube that comes with a can of WD-40.

I think I'll have to do a thorough inspection of his arms the next time we go up there and give him some more lessons on cleaning them.

Mine's in our finished basement also. But my wife just told me to put a door on the room so she wouldn't have to see it.

I'm fortunate. My big ask for this house was an unfinished, but air conditioned (temp & humidity) basement.

I still need to organize my reloading area though. I've been doing a lot of reloading during the pandemic, and it is getting quite messy!
