Some of you younger fellers may want to chance it...

Post by AJMD429 »

.
...but I didn’t want to chance waiting around for the next time NEOWISE 2020 comes by to visit, so i saw it tonight.

If you find the big dipper and locate the two bottom stars in the dipper then go in the direction away from the handle towards the northwest horizon about five lengths of the dipper basin it should be around that area with the tail pointing to the upper right. The sky doesn’t get dark enough to see it until it is about 15 to 20° above the horizon and of course it’s towards the west so it’s dropping and goes out of sight in the next hour or so.

This internet picture shows where to look.

Hope to glimpse it tonight from the shore of Elephant Butte Reservoir here in central New Mexico.
