POLITICS - it is just all talk:(
i keep reading on this and other forums like ours here that we won't let the government take our guns. we will die fighting. having seen this take place after katrina and hearing many people's justifications for the police and the uniqueness of the event, and the rarity of it all only lend credence to the notion it is just all talk.
yes, the framers placed the 2nd amendment to guarantee our right of protecting ourselves for others and from the government, but we have grown too passive and too soft. i am afraid that when militarized police show up at our door most of us will choose life on the breast of the mother country than dieing a free man securing the freedom for others.
i lament for the great men and women who died for our freedoms. i only pray that we might be able to die for the freedoms of the next generation.

Yep, I do feel sorry for those folks.but we have grown too passive and too soft. i am afraid that when militarized police show up at our door most of us will choose life on the breast of the mother country than dieing a free man securing the freedom for others.
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.
I spent 21 years going into harms way for my country. When my country goes against me, I will spend my last breath to defend my way of life. I fear not death, I fear the loss of freedom more.

One of my biggest fears...
That our government will turn against the people, taking their freedom and arms by force...
And that I may not have the courage to do what is right, stand up, and shout "NO!", then defend my birthright to the end.
I often think of the line in "The Patriot" that went something like "war is not just for young, unmarried men" - as a father stated he couldn't serve because he had kids to raise. I do as well - but which is worse - allowing them to live in bondage, having done nothing to protect their freedoms so I could be with them a while longer, or leaving them orphans because I made a stand - and lost?
Could I live with myself doing the former?
Again, I struggle with the question - and am honest enough to admit my concern... we live in challenging times...

I figure every day I spend upright after VN a blessed event. So, I find it hard to know what I'd do; but sure hope I have the courage of my convictions.

I think some folks will suprise us when the time comes to do or die. Some of the loudest "Sheep Dogs" will roll over on their backs and play dead while some of the people who were thought of as sheep will do incredible things. That's usually what history and human nature bear out in my experience. No one will know until the time comes. Whether Sheep or Sheep Dog.......if we remember who The Shepherd is, we will do well and not be ashamed.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

If one chooses not to stand because they are afraid of what will happen to their loved ones, they will have the double privilege of having their children watch their father surrender and learn to live on his knees, and then he can watch as his children learn to live on theirs.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I beat the draft 30+ years ago by signing up. I did it because I believed freedom was at stake; not for me, but those who were being overrun by the communist ideaology.
Through Laos and Cambodia I saw many, many people who were just trying to survive without any thought of trying to resist. We buried many of those.
In the process, I saw some very good men give their lives, (found some, held some) for the same belief.
My family has a history of being warriors. myself, I'm tired of war. I just want to be left alone. But, freedom has never lost it's meaning for me.
I will be free, or I'll die trying.
I have faith in my country to support the freedoms she was founded on, if that is gone ,I answer only to God.

All they have to do to make you a pariah and single you out is call you a child molester, child abuser, or 5th column terrorist. After that even folks you thought were your friends will turn on you and all manner of violation of rights will be ignored. Weaver, Koresh, LDS, the list goes on. Those who wish to disarm and enslave will never make a direct frontal attack. And LEO have already proven during Katrina that as a group they will aggressively carry out illegal orders.

Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of rightousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I will fear no evil. For thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil. My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. So mote it be
These words and the spirit imbued in them will enable me and mine to make the hard choice when the time comes. I know that death does not mean the end.

Now let us all repeat the conscience soothing mantra:Scott Young wrote:i keep reading on this and other forums like ours here that we won't let the government take our guns. we will die fighting. having seen this take place after katrina and hearing many people's justifications for the police and the uniqueness of the event, and the rarity of it all only lend credence to the notion it is just all talk.

"I don't like what the NRA/Republicans did and are doing but will continue to support, if you don't support the NRA/Republican candidate you are part of the problem, and, the democrats will make it worse."
In so many words, I will not hold the NRA/Republicans accountable and will reinforce treasonous behavior, I refuse to examine myself, hey look how bad those others are.
Want something done right? Do it yourself. Not a membership or a single vote, but hands on. And my hat does go off to the NRA members who call foul and take steps to correct the behavior, same goes for the people involved in their community GOP calling foul, problems arise when we simply send money or add distractions. If any prefer the send money/vote method they better be darned sure of the orginization/candidate track record. If the track record isn't a proven one spewing the mantra does more harm than good.
Keep buying a product when its quality takes a dump and you will receive a crappy product while the manufacturer enjoys a windfall, still, brand loyalty is soothing and harmless right?
Shall we repeat the mantra again? Can you imagine the founding fathers spewing the mantra tripe? (no offense tripe lovers) Our Country can be made right but certainly not by trusting others to do it for us, or ignoring track records and hoping for the best.
Until hands on catches on, it will be "just talk."
