Should we: Stay here or Go back ...
I like the open format of this temporary forum, and the regular forum. However I have to say I like this format better. Instead of the stickies and maybe a half dozen threads on the first page like we have on the regular forum, here we have many threads.
I find it much easier to browse and monitor the active threads HERE.
With all respect to Joel and the other forum, I'd like to stay here if I could.
Just for my curiosity; what say you?

With all due respect, Joe, "going back" isn't an option to the best of my knowledge. The software Joel was using is no longer supported. Nor is is capable of handling the database size needed for the amount of traffic this site generates. Time will tell, but we don't know for sure yet what the future holds.J Miller wrote:I like the open format of this temporary forum, and the regular forum. Thanks for the information. I've been here everyday since this forum was reopened and had not heard those details. I probably missed it.
I do appreciate your making this available to us. Thanks.
OK, guys I guess my pole is / was a waste of time.

RIP old forum...Hobie wrote:The old format will not be returning no matter what you wish for.
Hobie, any chance of the data being recovered and made available at some point? There was an awful lot of good stuff on there. Shucks, and I had just been promoted to "Buckaroo Levergunner" (or some such thing) with my 1,000th post...

I like this format, much better than the old one. I also like the email notification.
While the info contained on the old place maybe gone , the knowledge is still here, looks to me like most of us have made the trip over here. So alls that needs to happen is...... for the same tired beat to death questions to be asked.

Ysabel Kid's giving you a run for your money. Better step lively or he'll take your crown! He's only 30 posts behind you at the time of this posting...

I really missed the old forum at first. Took me a couple weeks to move over here. Now I'm used to this one, and it does have some additional capabilities. I just hope we get all the history off the old forum - there was a treasure-trove of info there!!!
I also miss a few of the "emoticons"! And really miss the "send topic to a friend" and "print topic" features. Despite this though, I have to admit, the new site is better - and as noted, the old one isn't coming back!

cas wrote:Hey Paul... just how much of your bandwidth is this thing using up every month? More out of curiosity than anything, though I do toy with the idea of leaving Disc Sewer and it's pop ups for Savage24. (though I don't know if that change would be welcome)
cas, hit me on the e-mail if you'd like to discuss moving away from disk.sewer. The Savage 24 forum is lower traffic than here, by far. This one used about 40% of the bandwidth I assigned to it last month (I think, it was over 33% last I checked) and there's more in the pool we can throw at it if necessary. This program (and another one SMF or some such) come with hosting at no extra charge - and if you need another MySQL slot for it, that's no problem either. You could poll the guys on Savage 24 and see what they have to say.

I've lost a couple of favorite forums before, and the old forum will be missed, but this one is doing well.

You can do that here as well. This includes the Classifieds forum!KWK wrote:With this version, I like the greater number of threads displayed by default. With the old version, I liked being able to display only threads which had changed since the last visit.

Is there any way on this board to highlight the posts we've read in the past, so we can more easily return to them, or to jump to the first new post on a thread when we click the thread title? I think that is the most frustrating thing for me on this board- I read a lot more than I post. I appreciated the "highlight" feature on the old board. I can't find that on the settings here, but also don't know what I am looking for.
Thanks, Regan

I like this format but a feature that we need here is an automatic reload of the active topics like that old board had.

I'm not sure what y'all are referring to, but there are various ways to see what's going on. On the Forum Indexjengel wrote:I like this format but a feature that we need here is an automatic reload of the active topics like that old board had.

you see the regular forum and the classified forum. IF there's anything new on one or the other since the last time you logged in, you'll see an orange colored bell icon. If nothing's new when you login then you'll see a white bell icon. Now, once you go to the main forum, again you'll see the same.

All new items are marked in orange, older stuff is marked in white. One thing to make this work, you DO have to log in - that way the server recognizes you and lets you see what's new since the last time you visited.
I'm guessing that y'all are looking for something that only works if you're logged in. I set it to login each time I drift over here. That way I know what's new and what's old since the last time I was here. And all active topics are at the top of the page, right under the announcements and stickies. Each new post or response gets placed at the head of the list and older stuff is pushed down. It works slick - IF you log in.

I'll look and see if there's someway to suppress non active announcements and stickies for folks logging in. But I've no problem seeing what folks are chatting about recently.Old Savage wrote:Well Am, it is the latest topics appearing without the stickies.

Well OS, there's no toggle to tweak, unfortunately. Perhaps in a future release of the software. But I've NO idea what the developers are doing on that front.Old Savage wrote:Well Am, it is the latest topics appearing without the stickies.
