Two of my favorite 1911s
I haven't picked up any lever actions, or anything else lately, but since I'm stuck in the house after another round of stomach ulcers and anemia I started looking through some of my pictures.
The 1911A1 on the right belongs to my dad. Back when you could buy directly from the DCM my grandfather bought about a dozen. The whole box was British proofed Colts!
They had no idea what these pistols would be worth someday so my dad took his to the local gunsmith and turned it into a target pistol. I grew up shooting hundreds, if not thousands of light handloads that my grandfather had made. You get really good at clearing a jamb with old light handloads. The Ivory grips were given to my dad by an old insurance agent that had spent time in the British army and brought the grips home from India.
I've had the National Match for about five years, it replaced a custom Colt Combat Elite that was sold off when I was ill and not expected to make it.
This is the most accurate .45ACP I've ever owned, chews the center out of the target! The grips are bone and were give to me by a friend that said that they were too thick for his hands.
Let's hear about some of your favorites

Watch what you eat! I bet your wife is telling you the same thing.
My 1911 is a RIA that I had sights added to. It shoots great other than being finicky about hollow points. It likes the Hornady Critical Duty, so I don't care about finding any other HP ammo right now. I shoot FMJ in it 99% of the time, anyway. I will post a picture later.

I used to think my left handed Randall was my favorite. But a few years ago I inherited this from a cousin. Like his father he was a hero in the true sense, not the watered down version applied to so many who simply do their jobs today.

Very nice Jason, I only wish I could compete but my 1911 is just a Co2 BB pistol. . . .
Love that WW1 commemorative too

Some beautiful pieces there. I'm not a huge handgun guy, much prefer rifles. Only have 1 1911 currently, but I do like it. Sig Sauer Stainless Match Elite, in .40.

Re: Two of my favorite 1911s
My two favorites are a 1911A-1 Remington Rand Camp Perry match pistol. And a 1967 Colt Commercial with it's Ace conversion kit. Both extremely accurate, but sights on the Remington make it a bit more accurate.

Jeepnick,
Those are pretty cool. My dad has all four that he lucked into at auction about ten years ago. Pretty much stole them.

All good stuff and then some guys.
How can you not love the 1911?
Think I have six of them.

love seeing the high class machinery
I have one blue collar second string Phillipine 1911 apparently made to military specs. shoots ball ammo perfectly.. great trigger . . . my wife's favorite semi auto to plink with ... costed about $300 new from Bud's I think.... best part, it's got American Classic on the slide, same as my Beeman 17 cal. suits me just fine. :)

Re: Two of my favorite 1911s
My handgun tastes have slowly evolved into 1911’s , S&W’s that are pinned and recessed , with a slight smattering of Ruger and Colt revolvers . I’ve only got four 1911’s at the moment three Kimbers one Colt . Three are 45 the others 10mm . I suppose at some point I’ll get a Rock Island 1911 4” in 9mm for the boss and hopefully some day a Colt Ace .

Re: Two of my favorite 1911s
My favorite is a combat commander Colt. I made a set of ivory grips for it but those bone grips you have are really nice.

Re: Two of my favorite 1911s
Nice stuff guys!!
1911s have always been my favorites. Fortunately I still have my WWI Colt and a couple others.
Looks like the Rock Island pistols are pretty popular with some of you. I bought one of the Tisas, Turkish import a few months ago and
have been pretty impressed with how it shoots. They reproduced the look and finish of a WWII 1911a1 really well and for less than $350.

Re: Two of my favorite 1911s
I'm still waiting to hear when the Tisas compact 1911 will come in again. I'm on the email list to be notified from a seller as I'd like to get a compact 1911 to add to my collection. They look like a nice gun, and at the price it's tough to beat.2ndovc wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 5:09 am Nice stuff guys!!
