If anybody has any sense they will just stick with the common modern calibers. Pick up a copy of Fred's Modern Gunnery. You will have nooo problems but ... likely miss out on some of the fun. I start with the 45 ACP. Then went to the 44 Spl. No problem, carbide dies and a Dillon cranked them out like mad. But curiosity came knocking and I said come in, come in. Have a beer, let's talk and see where a good buddy friend is now who sells me primo Colts and Smiths about 1/2 price.

It's mostly cause nobody gets tested.

No heel base bullets for this kid! Life is too short for that aggravation. Especially when we have so many awesome cartridges, some chambered in the very same guns.

Does 38 Special or .357 Magnum fit in with modern calibers criteria? I know they are pretty new, buy there seems to be a little bit of evidence that they work. They might stick around.

I agree, the effort involved for such a little cartridge is hardly worth it but it's a neat little round( sure it's under powered ) but I'm sure it's fun as all get out! Would I go out of my way to buy one, naw.

Rain AGAIN today. Claro to vet this morning for her shots. I have to stay outside, they come out to get her. Then Wensday she goes for her 8 week post op check up.

Gunny...excuse my ignorance and extreme undereducated question but what is that thingy? Is that where the bone broke/tendon issue and that thingy is holding it together? My memory gets worse by the day...........

Rain......the last couple of weeks....more rain for another full week.......can't remember the last time we had a full day of sunshine with no clouds.......

The stainless steel plate you see in now what stabilizing her knee. Since the ACL was completely ruptured this as the only choice for her. The procedure is known as a TPLO.

I heard this morning that e have had 15 days of rain so far this month! It would be nice to have a fe dys of sun in a row!

How is your daughters dobie after the surgery?

He is having a hard time but improving. He is not in pain all the time gets stitches out in a week. Swelling and bruising have gone down a lot.

Yes the first few days the lg looks kind of gruesome but it goes away fast. The leg will atrophy some but before you know it he will want to run!

Another Gunsmoke episode, this one they say .30 bullet that Doc dug out of a victim but no one heard the shot, guy had a can on the end of what appeared to be a 92.

Howdy boys. We been a little busy. Gunny both Marlin and Winchester offered Maxim silencers as an option. No NFA then.
The screen shot OS showed is the guy I have been buying my cases and bullets from for my Marlin he is a nice guy from Wisconsin. I have the early 1892 without a cartridge stop or cartridge guide so I have to trim my cases to .580 then seat the healed bullet. Not much different than loading for other. I tried a box of 1970-80’s Remington brand 32 long colt didn’t shoot for Pelosi as the caliber is actually 32 long. Bore.312 and 32 long colt is .308. I use 231 and bullseye2.3 grains.
Jay you are supposed to get a double digit snowfall this weekend. Good luck buddy.
I ended up with a 25/35 as part of a trade anybody have good load data for a cast bullet? Thanks guys take care.

Stocking day! Give me a chance to try out my new air pump in the Ranger. We used to use a John Deere gator but it kept over heating. The mighty Ranger has more ground clearance and that's big for some of the trail we ride to stock fish.
Anyhow the air pump was hard wired and stuck fast to the gator. I made up a water tight tote with 2 prong disconnects so now it can be easily removed/swapped between machines.

Boy it's getting harder and harder to keep Claro from acting like she should! She so wants to run- she really REALLY wants to play fetch! I'm thinking we are going to do a couple weeks of water work after her clearance from vet before we start heavy training.

It's amazing how fast magazines pile up, I've got stacks to get rid of myself!

You FW only graces us with his presence on occasion anymore- what's with that Tom?

G, Claro's surgery was apparently the more radical kind of cutting and turning the tibia. On Boris they moved muscle and ligament attachments. At one week he is walking gingerly apparently without much pain..Of course he is still on pain medication.

Her surgery was much more intensive- she completely ruptured the ACL, was the only fix ! Now it was brought to my attention that spayed and neutered dogs are more prone to ACL problems! My dogs dont get fixed and when the surgeon asked if she had or hadn't been "fixed" and I replied she was intact it got a raised eyebrow. That aside if a dog blows out an ACL, chances are better than 50-50 it will blow out the other knee.
In Claro's case she probably partially tore it last or even the year before and finished it in January. I sure hope she doesn't wreck the other.
She too was walking on it a week post OP, it is a slow recovery with bone as you know!

This may be discouraging or encouraging as you take it but over seven years later from a compound fracture of the femur, with a titanium rod and acl/pcl knee ligament injury I am still experiencing improvement.

Dogs maybe different. My daughter is taking every possible care and precaution in Boris's recovery.

Well....it's good to see you guys are talking about meaningful issues.......Fred did a before and after, (can't tell much difference, but I never did have an eye for perfection.......the Nat Geo mags are one of my favorites, going back to when I was about 12 and continuing up to around 15-20 years ago.

Gunny's doing well wit da dogs......"who let the dogs out???"....

I got tested for this covid 19 and I'm negative.

Got a phone call today, good ol Tom needed to chew my ear- great talking to you bud !!

Well we put in fish today, some bigguns!! My rig for the air pump worked well- I neglected to bring home the 'octopus ' of tubing for each bucket. Did today and rigged it up so it will stay less messy.

You see those screws in Old Savages are the hold his arm together and for your dog??.. To me, they look like 8-24's ...wonder what kind of loctite they us on those inner body supports or maybe they have special lockers. -----6

Six, the screws put in bone are different material for different purposes. Titanium is not rejected by bone. Stainless sometimes is rejected and kicked out. Platinum coated titanium gets coated and covered completely with bone. The screws put in your jaw for dental implants have a platinum alloy on the outside and it becomes part of the bone structure. The stainless posts that attach to the screws are fine in the gum material, but the bone leaves it alone. Titanium is used where it needs to stay permanently or semi-permanently without causing the bone to grow all around it. The screws to hold a plate that will come out eventually are stainless steel. If it is to never come out, it will be titanium. If it is to be made part of and covered by bone it is platinum. Maybe this helps a little.

The hardware is there to support the bone while it heals. If the bone does not knit the plate will eventually break as you see in the picture I posted above. Then there is a picture of the bruising from taking bone from the hip and a picture of the titanium rod in the femur. Btw all this does not set off the TSA or other security scanners.

The dogs with their surgeries are dealing with the same type issues. They do not remove these things if they can help it. That pin has been there since 1975.

Thank you gentlemen for the well defined answer.......curious...how thick is this plate they put in people and other living beings? Guess it depends on the degree of breakage or how much it needs to support.

One of the very few things "modern" I like is medical technology and medicines....

All these storms and varying pressure systems is playing hell with my Meniers......don't hardly feel much like doing anything.

Six, not as thick as you might think in some cases. Here is the broken one they took out of my arm. The function is to hold the ends of the bone together, in this case the ulna. The radius of course also stabilizes the forearm. That is a nickel next to it. It derives some of its strength from the shape.

Ok......wow! That's really interesting and thanks for taking the time to show me that.....the screws look like self tappers......the supporting piece of metal is bigger than I imagined.......can you feel it through your skin?.

I have a piece of steel 1 and 1/2 cm x 1 cm. It broke off a wedge when I was splitting wood with a sledgehammer and it drove it a million miles an hour through my jeans and an inch into my calf.......I just went about my business but after a couple of days I couldn't walk so I went to the hospital and the doc decided to leave it in there.....

How come the docs put a nail clipper in your arm?

At first glance the grill on fire looked like a dash chair! I've got lots of hickory trees here, we used to just go cu a sapling for the smoker, no need to soak it, just strip off the bark and toss it on the fire.

Well, dinner wasn't half bad last nite, I just love my Napoleon grill! Ribeye and red potatoes... Another night or two and the red potatoes will be gone, and I can go back to work without worrying about fruit flies in the pantry! But, breakfast this morning was something else again! Gotta load a test in 44mag too.

I did get the garage all turned around for spring thus past weekend. Got the old Jeep back down off the jackstands. Should be fiddleheadin' before too long.

Well Jay.......yes, you continue to have snow......there's something I've noticed from living on the same plot of ground for 45 years....the grass.......there's always spots that start growing sooner and thicker than other spots and I'll start hitting those spots in the very beginning of April.........

I'm not Mr. Fertilizer......if it's green it's good enough for me. My neighbors have these people with big trucks who spray their front yards several times a year...screw that....my front yard is an acre and a half....

Other than a spot here or there I have yet to cut the front yard which is always in full swing by mid April....

The back yard and pasture is different....back yard which is about a half acre is the part where it's fenced in and dogs over the past 45 years have helped to fertilize it well....already cut that about four times. Pasture has been home to farm animals since 1804 and I'll cut that maybe once every 2-3 weeks....

Yea....it's a cold and dismal spring.......

I'm very bored...you wanna hit the club tomorrow? It's time like this I really miss my buddy Gunny....the other gunny who moved away on me.....he was always ready to go to the club.....---8

Yep I went to work. Half day, installed drawer pulls, cut a/c vent into toe kick, heat duct through the step down into family room.
Got home, had lunch then went downstairs to load some 375s. 5 each of 60.0 IMR 4895 with 250 Sierra, 260 Nosler partition and Sierra 300s . Just to try em out ! Sure 4895 is a pain to load but I always have good luck with it. Then I decided to load the 450s I shot up sighting in the new scope. 37.6 of lilgun with a 250gr XTP. Should be just about 2150fps, with the new BDC scope all I should have to do is dial up... gotta clear a bunch of brush so i can test it !

I'm headed to OR on Wednesday, in looking for a load out of there, I was asked if I wanted to go to Bangor, ME... I told her that I was pretty sure their 2 weeks of summer was a couple of months away... I don't do Winter well... that & I have to drive thru either the wasteland that's called NY or our northern neighbor... and neither seems to feel I have the right to protect myself. That, and NY requires me to put an ugly azzed sticker on my bumper...
