I'm delving in something I've wanted to do before but never was willing to go thru with .
I'm pricing and finding stuff in anticipation of loading for an 8 gauge gun .
This whole scenario hinges on whether I can acquire a gun I'm after at the moment .
I've made big in roads on being able to acquire the tools needed to load for the thing . Also found a way to get brand new Winchester unfired primed hulls . I did go so far as ordering Tom Armbrusts book on Loading 4 and 8 gauge guns .
Anyway only time will tell if my efforts are in vain

I have been wondering how long it would be till You got bored with those little 10's . it will be fun to see how this all works out. ! .
If I’m able to get it I already have two loads a friend uses in the three 8’s he has . He has a “light” load using 1 1/2 ounces of shot pushed with Universal Clays . In a 14-15 pound cannon that load won’t have much recoil if any . He also gave me a let’s say turkey load using 2 ounces of shot pushed by Blue Dot , now granted that’s a much stouter load but still in14-15 pound gun no problem recoil wise . I’m intrested to see if I have a 10 gauge slug that’ll fit about right inside an SP-8 shot cup and see how it shoots as well as some buckshot loads .

I was looking at some info I have on the gun ! JUST the barrels and forend weigh 9 1/2 pounds . I’m about 500% sure this thing will be NO WHERE near lively in my hands .

Nice new WIN hulls can be obtained thru Armbrust all be it a little pricey $0.75 each . If this deal goes down I think I’m going to get 500 . That certainly oughtta be enough to last for the rest of my life . But all this planning is most likely gonna be for naught

https://winchesterindustrial.com/loads.html The three buckshot loads listed in the factory loads intrest me especially the .425” ball load which roughly equates to 000000 buck and secondly the load holding twenty 00 pellets .

Eight of those 000000 pellets is roughly two ounces so that should fall in the low pressure loading parameters for the 8 gauge . “If” I can figure a decent way to get 5 or 6 of them in a 2 7/8” 10 gauge that oughtta be okay as well . However it’s a bit of a chore getting six of the 00000 (.395”) pellets in a 2 7/8” 10 gauge .

Forget the big pellets- go to 4 buck! You can kill a deer and trim the surrounding landscape at the same time
By law we can not use buckshot larger than OOO or smaller than 4 buck here. Round balls are verboten as well! Hmm that gets me thinking about a slow twist rifled barrel for shotguns just to use round balls!

Ok,ok the anticipation is getting to me...
I’ve never cared for #4 buck . I suppose eventually I’ll try and kill a deer with #4 buck in a 10 gauge as I have some . I’ve kinda messed with double and single ball loads as well but so far haven’t had the kinda success on paper I was hoping for .

My shoulders give me problems also I can’t shoot a vertical bow anymore . I suspect if I had them operated I could after about a year , but the crossbow works well enough . But I digress , shooting shotgun games doesn’t bother them
much . Shooting an 8 isn’t that bad either with the throttled down 1 1/2 ounce load in a 13-16 pound gun . On the other hand one would get tired I suspect after lifting that thing a hundred times for Skeet or trap or sporting .

From the looks of that DH it was worth every penny!
The suspense is wearing on me- when are you getting your 8???!
This has gotten a bit diverse ! In the last three weeks I’ve seen two lifters two top levers and four hammerless for sale ! The gun above sold and one of the lifters already . If it were a perfect world I’d like a top lever hammer on a 7 frame and a hammerless on a 6 frame but I doubt I ever have two of them and may very well never have one
