First start-up
Marlinmans thread of his hot rod sound inspired me to get the old 77 out of the shed, snow melted back enough to get it out.

Re: First start-up
Looks and sounds great Draperjojo
Love the handle bars too, i had high bars on every bike i had in the past and would have them on this bike but i just don`t have the interest anymore in changing it all over.
Riding is all i used to think about but as i age and feel like chit it isn`t as much fun but i`ll still die owning a Harley.
What i like most about the old bikes is the ease of working on them and the chain drive, i really like choppers for that reason.
My dream is to have a rigid Pan head chopper but it probably won`t happen.

I'm with you on the Panhead Pitchy!
Re: First start-up
I recently "first started" my parts bike, an R65 BMW. I don't know how to post the video, but the "sound" would make for good laughs. I have a short video of the engine running with the rocker covers off to check the oil flow to the top end, which on the airhead is on the side, but never mind that... because the "sound" resembles something like a sewing maching with heavy breathing...
back in the day I took the innards outa the mufflers of my R50, rejetted the carbs, and had a ride with recognizeable engine sounds. my friends could hear me approaching before I came around the corner with sparks flying off of the foot pegs.... I was a kid and didn't know any better.. still don't.. but I do love the Harley sound effects...

All engines have a sound of their own and is all in the ear of the beholder.

Re: First start-up
I'm not a motor-cycle guy, have always been allergic to two wheel motorized vehicles--but nothing sounds as COOL as those Harley's... :)
Re: First start-up
Thanks 1894, i used to like the noise the louder the better but have mellowed and mid loud is fine now.
Harley`s are for a certain people but i can ride with any type bike, it`s all about the ride which i can`t go far with my failing health 20 miles is about all i can take now.

Re: First start-up
Did I mention selling my 66?
Sold it to one of my boys so it's still in the family.

Re: First start-up
Ron i hope ya have half a dozen others stashed away.
rossim92, i hear ya me to but would rather ride in cool weather than hot.
Belt drives are ok if ya arn`t riding a lot of dirt roads, i do and have lost two belts on other bikes.
I enclosed the belt better on my Fat Boy so as not to pick up rocks and punch a hole in the belt.

Re: First start-up
I`m sure belt guards are different on different models, on my Fat Boy there is a open area on the tire side across from the front of the tire.
I riveted a piece of tin on top of the guard then down between the guard and tire to keep rocks that are thrown over the tire on top tooth side of the belt.
I`m only saying what i did and not recommending that anyone try this on their bike so use idea this at you own risk.
There isn`t much room there so it has to be made so as not to interfere with the motion of the tire or belt.
