Effect of panic on gun prices?
With gun shows shutting down and reports of panic buying of arms and ammunition, what's everyone's take on the weeks ahead?
I dunno if it is the right time to try to sell stuff like .45-70s or cowboy guns. Might be a good time to sell an AR platform. Really have no idea, but sure hope we don't see .22 ammo go away again for a year.
As an afterthought, is there honor in dying to protect your toilet tissue supply?

With most gun shows closed down, I imagine that Local Toy Shops will be over-stocked with decent used stuff at inflated prices.

I've been thinking of picking up another upper or two. I have enough lowers and parts to put a couple together. Thinking of trading goods if stuff really gets bad or giving to family members.

Not sure about guns yet...
But my twin told me yesterday the Cabela's in Mass was totally stocked out of 9mm and 223s, while I was told today while shooting skeet that the local Cabela's here in Maine had bare shelves of common handgun ammo. One of the shooters heard there were riots and mobs in Italy, but I haven't heard it on the news to confirm. Could be a mix of virus and pre-election buying going on...

Anyone who finds themselves short on ammo after the last shortage fiasco deserves to be caught short. It's only been 2-3 years now since the Great Shortage was over, yet folks seem to have forgotten and let their stocks dwindle.

Spot on!
I already had a good stash along with bullets, powder and primers but still stocked up on 9mm, 5.56, 7.62, .44s, .45s and 22lr. Prices were the lowest they've been in a decade. No excuse not to.

I have, maybe, 15,000 .22 LRs....Another case wouldn't hurt a thing..... A case of CB longs is a good idea, too, in case I have to do a little emergency meat hunting across the Hwy.....

Amazing...
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Re: Effect of panic on gun prices?
There is an obvious rush on the tactitard standards......
Cabelas, basspro, and academy all out of 7.62x39, 5.56 nato, & 9x19 ammo.....
Cabelas and sportsmans guide websites have crashed and are down for maintenance.....
I tried Cabelas first as I have some club points to redeem but they were all out of the rooskie stuff....
Thankfully still have a few thousands verdigrious y2k stock left.....anyone remember 1999 ?

I only have about 25,000 rounds of .22lr right now. If I am careful, it should last for a few months.

I don't shoot even 250 rounds of .22 a year, but likely will shoot more now that I have a CZ 527 AT ONE joining the rack.
Re: Effect of panic on gun prices?
I'm sure you recall my prior comment in a different century that those 22s could be the most valuable trade commodity we have at some point... I still think so ...

I saw yesterday that Cheaper Than Dirt is up to their old.tricks again. Quadrupled a lot of their ammo prices.

Re: Effect of panic on gun prices?
I had 20,000 rds. of .22LR during the last shortage, but stopped buying it when it got over $15 a brick of 500. Then when it got back down under $20 for plinker ammo I started buying a brick a month again, and I've got more than I'll likely use in my lifetime.
I bought another AR15 about 2.5 years ago when they dropped down below $400 new. I also bought a case of .223 ammo for it, and have most of that case still. Of course I've got more loading supplies, and casting lead than I'll ever need, so I'm not concerned about any ammo needs.
I don't need anymore guns, and I'm avoiding stores of any kind, so wont be hitting any to check prices. I'm also not planning to sell any now, and doubt anyone wants the old 1800's guns I've got anyway. Guessing modern semiauto rifles and pistols are what the unprepared are looking to buy, and the few of those I have wont be going up for sale either.

Martin B. Retting is still in bidness!? I first saw their adds in the early 1960's. If ammo is short again mebbe I should tally up my stock of .30Commie and put a note up at the club, sold the SKS and don't intend to buy another commie gun.

Re: Effect of panic on gun prices?
Saturday past, I ordered 15 boxes of 20 of hornady frontier 55gr. 5.56. from cabelas.....
That might sound like a lot to some but it is just enough for 10 magazines.....
The box came today with 6 boxes and the rest of the order cancelled.....that is just enough for 4 magazines.....
Yes, there is a definate panic run and consequent shortage on ammo.....

Re: Effect of panic on gun prices?
Academy Sports and Outdoors today was limiting everyone to 3 total boxes. No 500 count tubs of anything available. Oh well. I got some 9mm Federal FMJ in 100 count, some Winchester White box 100 count FMJ in .40 cal, and a box of 20 count .556 in 55 grain. That is about a day at the range normally. If TEOTWAWKI happens, I have other things to use. It does seem as if panic really has set in. Pharmacies have been told we must stay open.
