Levergunning for 'yotes
When you read the title of this thread, the .30-30 is the first round to come to mind, but I was thinking about the .44 magnum. Since a heavy .44 mag is similar to a down loaded .45-70, I thought it might make a fair medium/long range 'yote round. I'm still fairly new to reloading and I'm still just trying to find a pet load for my 94 in .44 mag, so this may be totally off base, for all I know.
Thoughts, anybody?

If you can hit 'em right you sure can kill 'em with the .44 Mag. I'd go with the 180s for this chore but the standard 240s will teach you all about the gun and be usable come season for something whitetail sized.
Sincerely,

I have been using 110grn Speers in my 30/30 but when they have gone I won't bother with them again. I will just use the standard 150-170grners. Oh I mean for fox's by the way
I would of thought any .429 hole is going to do the trick in center mass. A mushroom would help things with an off center shot!

Two days ago, in the midst of a woods ramble, I sat down under a big oak for a breather. Five minutes later a 'yote came trotting by at around forty yards. I raised my Rossi M92 Trapper .45 Colt and fired a single 255 gr. SWC at approx. 1150 fps. He flopped instantly. Based on that experience, I'd say your .44 will work nicely.

A .22 wmr is plenty for 'yotes (been there, done that), so a .44 mag should be plenty. It all has to do with range and where they are hit. Don't need any magic bullet. Just necessary accuracy.

I do like the speer 170 fp in the 30-30 ai as it's tough enough that it won't explode and ruin the pelt the way lighter bullets for the 30-30 can do at close range.
A 250 gr Kt swc doing about 1600 from a 45 colt trapper will sure up end them out to about 250 yds also.

I generally use the 125gr Sierra HPs for 'yotes, but have used a 200gr RFN outta a .45 Colt for a couple of feral dogs chasin' one of my fillies a few years back! One shot @ 100yds dropped 'em in the mud. (Uh, that was 1 shot EACH!)
