Southern Side by Side

Post by 6pt-sika »

Made hotel reservations this AM for Friday and Saturday . I’ll be getting home from Dullus around noon on Thursday , I’ll get the truck loaded with guns , shells and clothes Thursday evening and head towards Raleigh about 04:30 Friday . Do the Parker banquet Friday night beat around all day Friday and Saturday then head back to the Old Dominion by 10:00 Sunday . Think I’ll carry seven shotguns to shoot and a couple others for show and tell !

Sounds like quite a time 6pt.
I've never been to anything like that. One look at me and they'd call security. :D

You better keep an eye on those Parkers while you are at the hotel and you better handcuff that 28 to your wrist ! I'm not going but I'm sure others there would like to get their paws on it!
Oh and if you see a guy walking around in a buffalo coat call security!

My plan is to carry the EH 10 28” , Grade 1 10 top lever 26” , VHE 12 26” , Grade 0 12 28” , VH 16 26” , maybe a grade 0 16 28” (if it falls into my hands) , VHE 20 28” and the VH 28 26” to shoot on the two course’s . Also bring along three or four others for some opinions . The two courses are supposed to be pretty close and all the 10’s 12’s and 16’s mentioned above are pretty open . The 20 is M&F and the 28 is F&F . That 0 grade 16 I’ve not actually had in my hands as of yet but it’s supposed to be okay to shoot . I believe a 16 hammer is as small as I’m intrested in for a hammer Parker. Parker 20 hammer guns are to darn expensive .

The stuff there for sale can cause you to say some uncontrollable words that’s for sure . Galazan has the Parker “J. Cliff Green” set there when I went before and that one made me say WOW out loud a couple times LOL’s .

Did the skeet thing yesterday ! Two rounds with a Parker VHE 12 gauge 26” , one round with a Parker VH 16 gauge 26” and one round with a Parker VH 28 gauge 26” . Didn’t do bad , not what I’d call a competitive score but okay . Going to Central Virginia Sporting Clays in an hour or so . Taking a pair of Parker VH 16 gauge guns for the course . Ones 26” IC/M and the others 28” M/F . Also taking the little Parker VH 28 gauge to shoot a round of wobble trap .

Been doing the shotgun stuff a bit as I’ve been committed to a driven Pheasent shoot at a local preserve on 2/15/20 . Never done one of these before so we will see . It isn’t actually the same as driven birds in the UK but a couple fellows I know that journey to the UK each year to shoot driven Red Grouse or Pheasents say this place has a pretty decent facsimile .

I shot the Parker VH 16 28” M&F today for the entire round of sporting clays . Was shooting Remington factory Dove and Quail loads 7 1/2 shot . That combo worked great when I was in target , I only shot in the low 70’s but I was satisfied . Shot a single round of wobble trap with the little Parker VH 28 gauge , wish I’d had more time to shoot a second round of wobble that fun ! But 100 of sporting and 25 of wobble was enough for one day I suppose .

If you think wobble is fun you really need to try shooting over a real bunker, 85 meter targets, 1-4 meter elevations and 45* r to l and anything in between! The bunker I shoot at we are always playing ( well I am) with my small bores. Yes I've shot my 410 and 28 numerous times. IC/M in 410 is very humbling! :D

We’ve got wobble trap at our gun club as well I like shooting “Jap Wobble Trap” the most . The one at the sporting clays course a visited yesterday has a couple other traps thrown in for good measure . I’ve got one 410 that’s S/S and the other two are F/F same with 28’s one is S/S and the Parker’s F/F . Might go do sporting next Thursday or Thursday the week after . Wanna get in another round before the Pheasent thing . I’ve about decided to take my Parker PH 10 gauge with 32” IC/M barrels . The guy that runs the thing suggests 1 1/4 of 6’s in a 12 gauge and I’m know my 1 1/4 10 gauge load will be a lot more Pleasent especially since that PH 10 weighs right at 10 pounds .
