as most remember i have long been on a quest for a representative example of all the major 22 rimfire lever guns, and earlier this year, i thought i had done the job...not trying to get every variation, for example, i have a winchester 1873 22 lever gun, in 22 long.....not trying to get all the versions of this, just one good one.... and so on, a nice 1891 marlin, 1892 marlin, etc...
i even got the actual prototype of a the little colt lever guns from the early 1960s that never went into production.. i had read that winchester actually made a one off version of their 1890 22 pump in lever configuration. i guess it is at the cody museum. others have made a few copies of that one , i was told

and then along comes a chance to get a winchester [ proposed production model or prototype or one off ] 1890 lever gun, a model 62 pump action made up in
SRC lever form, and of all things ... the predecessor of the 1860 Henry - the Volcanic - in 22 lr, and even a volcanic lever action pistol in 22 lr [ i had heard of the existence of this years ago, but didn't believe it ]









and since the same source had this i got it too --- a 22 lr conversion of colts first revolver - the Paterson

Harold..I'm having trouble absorbing this....who made these guns...are the first two Winchester prototypes? What's the scoop on the volcanic and the Paterson? Are they conversions from Italian made guns? The little Henry? This is interesting.....

Are they full sized guns or miniatures? I do know Winchester made "one of" prototypes of many of their guns but I thought they were at Cody or in their archives vault.

they are full size guns and i believe the volcanics were made from scratch !

also I recall there was someone who posted on here years ago, showing shop made volcanics etc. don't know if that is who did them or not

the winchesters are conversions, but all machined by hand and hand engineered.....they all work perfectly so i am told !

so far … you are right ! I have never listed them all...there are pumps, a few bolt actions, semi autos, and some single shots, and revolvers, derringers, and single shots and auto pistols.

yikes... now that I think about it, I bet 22s make up at least half of my total accumulation [ my stuff does not warrant being called a collection ]

Now you just need a Ruger 96/17....!

I have one, sort of.....I just bought a barrel in 17 HMR and put it on a 22 WMR model; with the Ruger's dovetail-mounting system, it took all of 5 minutes.

I do have one of those - and that 96/17 is really accurate and reliable; my list just included the 22 caliber lever guns [ LR and WMR ] and I also recently got a somewhat rare bird - a Winchester 94/17 lever gun ! the 17 is one of my favorite calibers !
