Saving money -

Post by rjohns94 »

I didn't post this as an off topic as it relates directly to our shooting sport. In recent threads, we talked about gas savings and I mentioned I have been cutting back on excessive speeding and saving about 3 gallons of gas a tank full, (11-13$ a tank) I have been putting that money aside for a few weeks now for a purpose.

It has been years since I reloaded ammo of any consequence but have been looking for a dillon press in some pistol calibers. I noticed one of the pistol only ones in the corner on the floor of my favorite gun shop. I had a credit in there so walked out with it and a reloading book and some brass (and other goodies but that is another topic for another day). No cash outlay!!!

Today I spent some of that gas savings money on powder, (how many grains in a pound?) bullets, primers. I had spent the last two nights getting the Dillon press set up so I loaded the first 200 rounds of cowboy loads for .45 LC. I have three pistols in that caliber, a Freedom arms 97 Premier, a Bond Derringer, and a Ruger OA conversion. I'm looking forward to putting some lead down range in them.

I looked at prices for ammo at the store today: PMC cowboys 30$/50, Winchester 20/17.50 So that makes 200 rounds cost somewhere about 120 - 175 $ before tax. It cost me 39$ of gas savings. So by simply slowing down to the speed limit and using cruise control, in three tanks of gas, less than two weeks of driving, I got 200 rounds of .45 LC for free!, saving me 147.50 (avg)!!!!! I'm very happy.

Now on to .38/357!!!!!

Just think of how much more you can save, by sifting through the backstop at your range for free casting lead !

Dang, and all this time I've been going the speed limit. What am I going to do? :!:

Way to go Mike.

Hobie

Well you used to be able to get wheel weights for free from the tire stores.

No more :(

The people that sell the wheel weights are now giving discounts if the tire store gives them the used weights.

Had to happen sooner or later. The funny thing is that I thought it would be some environmental regulation - not capitalism that caused this....

Mike,

I can't help but wonder how much ammo you can build if you drive 40mph or less everywhere.

Officer, I'm saving gas money for ammo.....
