The Space Gun Cometh.
Been taking a break from the lever action master race to tickle a certain fancy... pistol caliber carbines. Thought a keltec sub2000 would fill that niche but the holes were just too small. It was a travesty that needed correction. I could upgrade to 40s&w but meeeh. Besides, i was already invested in 45acp and that wasn't something a keltec could correct. Most of the options in that direction werent affordable (obligatory nod toward 45lc), but there was one...

Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
That hurts, indeed it does!
It's a High Tower Armory aftermarket kit designed to address the (many) deficiencies of a Hi-Point carbine. Strip the Hi-point down to the receiver and drop it into the HTA chassis like changing stocks on a 10/22. Feed the barrel through the upper and you're good to go. The redball 20 round mags address the capacity concerns Hi-Point has, but you'll have to forgive the budget optic (and messy bed). The SPARC is on the AR. I plan to take Hi-Point at its word and feed it a steady diet of +p. Frown on either or both if you want, but both products have a lifetime warranty and are made in the USA with numerous torture testing to back it up.
And God, the holes this thing makes are huge.

You and my son would get along just fine with these space things. He has all that stuff with a H&K SP5 on the way. This is his 45 auto...I think it s a CMMG. The guys at the shop say the Kel Tecs don't come back so they must be good.

Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
Well, a lot of this is dictated by budget as well. CMMG is sm3xy... But darn pricy. And lol, we won't even talk about the Uzi's. If you're looking for a game of one-upsmanship, I'll have to pass there :p I desperately want to drop money on a supressor for my 1911 and this thing. But again, I can't play with the big boys in terms of finances.Sixgun Sr wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2019 6:03 pm You and my son would get along just fine with these space things. I put my faith in old school carbines. Uzi Model A's---6
What I can play is 45 Super or 45 SMC to punch a 185gr pill out the barrel for 1k ftlbs of energy

I like it!! Except the handle thingy is on the wrong side!
The Highpoint upgrade is interesting. makes it look better. I'll stick with my MPX though.
Totally lucked into this one used. Long story, but I got it pretty cheap for one of these. Guy owed me one.

Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
Sorry man. I did get it for about half of what it was worth, though. The guy sold my Colt ARs for half price while I was sick in the hospital thinking he was doing my family a favor. Stuff happens.
I'd rather have my Colts back but the Sig is a killer. Far more accurate than the Uzi I had.

I like my MechTech '1911 upper' combined with my double-stack 1911 in 45 ACP. 20 round magazines feed well and only protrude a couple inches past the grip. (The magazine in the photo below is only a 16 round one).
However, I think the MechTech is actually WAY uglier.....

Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
Dont worry, didnt take you seriously. Im happy for my budget. And definitely wringing a bit more out of the round with a 17in barrel, thus the attraction of the bullpup format.Sixgun Sr wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2019 6:03 pm You and my son would get along just fine with these space things. Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
Considered the mectec for a bit... doublestack would br the only way to go on that otherwise no better than a base hi-point at triple the cost. How does it choot?AJMD429 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2019 8:26 pm I like my MechTech '1911 upper' combined with my double-stack 1911 in 45 ACP. 20 round magazines feed well and only protrude a couple inches past the grip. I don't have anything longer barrelled than a standard 1911A1 in .45 ACP. I do wonder if handloads and the slowest burning powder that a published recipe has would give better velocity out of a 16 or 17 inch barrel.

Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
7.6lbs unloaded. Its not light, but thats about the weight of an average AR. Its about tradeoffs IMO. I get a 17in several inches shorter than a 16in AR, enough capacity to matter and loadings that can reach out and touch average 55gr .233 @ 1k ftlbs from the barrel while making 45 caliber holesCOSteve wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 11:48 am The space gun isn't mine but an example of one a few friends who are super anal paper target shooter have. As to the OP's offering, I've tried a couple of those and find them exceedingly heavy for their design and not at all to my liking, however, to each his own.
I'm more of the traditional wood and steel type whereby I like to go with a more traditional mod. For instance, my scoped, 400yd 'Apple Shooter' AR A4 is not your 'normal' AR what with a real walnut set of furniture including a custom made walnut target pistol grip.
In addition, I've modeled my Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle after my M1A making it into a 'Mini 14'
Both those represent my leanings which are opposite from the Palma Space Gun look.
And if i need an apple shooter, i have that AR in 223 wylde
(incidentally, I just weighed that at 7.1lbs)

Re: The Space Gun Cometh.
Reminds me... Need to get a top break revolver. On my bucket list to do what Jeff Quinn did to his Schofield.
Final pic because pics are awesome. There's not much provisions for a sling point, but luckily the hi-point came with generic nylon and hardware that I could fit to an existing single point sling. Decided to throw the spark on the top because my AR desperately needs magnification, not a red dot. Perfect co-witness
