Neat stuff. Amazing what people come up with to solve problems. Now all the things to do the same job are designed to fall apart in 5 years.

Re: Irons and boards
Those are exactly the reason I dont own any clothes that need to be ironed! ( honest I dont!)
Somewhere I have an old iron , cant remember the last time I saw it though...

Re: Irons and boards
It must be a symptom of getting old but that brought up a memory …… I used to work at a newspaper in production & distribution and there was a maintenance guy who every Friday would bring in his hot dog steamer and sold hot dogs and brats with steamed buns, home made chili sauce, pickled peppers, brown mustard etc. He used a ironing board to set up his little buffet.
That was some good lunch time eating, sitting on the loading dock, talking sports or current events, enjoying the weather and fresh air.
Thanks for brining back a good memory.

Re: Irons and boards
My mother (who will be 100 years old next February) tells about using a gasoline iron when she was young. I checked out a youtube video of someone lighting one...…… …..scary as heck !!
As for me and my house, we don't iron anything.

Great stuff Pitchy !
My mother was using Mrs Potts irons until about 1962. They were simply heated on the wood burning stove.

Re: Irons and boards
I still have 4 of the Howell brand sad irons, my Mother used them into the 1950's, heated them on the old coal and wood stove.
In later years, she was fond of remarking that "the only thing good about the good old days is that they're gone. "

Re: Irons and boards
Nice ironing board Lenn. My Grandma had several irons with fixed handles that she used some. Mostly to prop her door open with in the summer time. Probly still some of them around here. I've probably told that I live on the old home place and have the accumulations of mine, father, uncle Bob & Grandfather. Now some of my sons are hauling stuff in here to store it.

Re: Irons and boards
Those are handy, and with using wood to heat the house in the Winter they save on electricity.

Re: Irons and boards
That's a really handy gadget Lenn. I love the red barn in the background, we have one that's very similar. Made by Hope's Uncle many years ago. Did you make the noggin knocker with the feather on it? My kids are all card carrying Cherokees so First Nation stuff fascinates me.

Re: Irons and boards
Wow! Up close those things look lethal. I didn't see the spikes in the background shot. I gotta change my carb today so my pickup runs right, change the seats in the jeep so I can get those big boxes out of my shop. and then move enough stuff to build the new bathroom for the shop. So much to do and so little time. And Esperanza is still convalescing so that takes some of my attention.

The drying sticks remind me of camp. We had em there to dry our "woolies" after a day of hunting.

Something like that could also be used to dry meat for jerky. Lots of possibilities to it.

Thanks Jay and Ron, slats were easy on the table saw and the new planer, it was the metal work on the last one that was a bugger.
