I'm still trying to figure out the best configuration for a suppressed AR-15.
I've tried direct impingement and piston; adjustable gas and fixed gas; rifle, carbine, and pistol length tubes, and they all seem to get 'jammy' after anywhere from a hundred rounds down to as few as twenty...
My Mini-14 will run FOREVER with the suppressor on it. The only problem is The design is like a Garand or M-1A, in that the back of the receiver just sits on the wood, so gas backpressure from the suppressor can get to your face a bit more than with an AR. Otherwise the Mini-14 is WAY more reliable as any of the AR's I've set up for suppressor use.
I haven't tried a nickel finished carrier group, but otherwise I've tried about every configuration and setting I can think of.
How do the guys who DEPEND on absolute function with a suppressed AR achieve that...? I know the military uses suppressed M4's, so I know it must be possible to run them suppressed reliably.

Doc,
I'm far from an AR expert and can only enlighten you on what I've observed. The gun on the left is my son's, a LWRC CSASS IN .308 which is here at the moment, sans suppressor as he had to take that home when he was here a couple of months ago. It's piston driven and when he was here we shot about a hundred and fifty out of it with the suppressor on......went home and took it apart to clean.....and it was very clean, unlike several other direct impingement AR's we were shooting and ones I shoot regularly.
This LWRC gun has features that are not on regular AR's such as a 20 position gas valve with the bolt carrier group and the receiver having a special coating that allows carbon to be wiped off with a rag. It's a top shelf high dollar AR. LWRC made 500 of these for civilian use that are patterned from military sniper guns.....it's scary accurate.
While the 300 blackout next to it is a direct impingement gun, it too stays clean as my son built this with top quality components.
Bottom line..in my view.....if your gonna suppress an AR, buy quality....and buy "Made in the U.S.A.".
You would do better to log on or lurk onto an AR forum such as AR15.com----6
ARs like to be wet with lube and that causes the gunk to stick on everything. I'd try different lubes and see if that makes a difference. I use marvel mystery oil on my ARs.
As for the suppressor, I'm no help as I'm in a suppressor free zone!
