Pheasant opener.....

Post by Nath »

....today here in the UK.
Been hunting the roosters mostly with front stuffers for the past several years, just seems right to me somehow.
Anyway got it started this year with a left to right bird about 25yards with 1&1/4oz of #6. From my 1972 Peder.

I always thought Pheasant was one of the best tasting birds. They are sure pretty.

They are such beautiful birds and I really admire your gun. Makes me wish I still had the W. C. Scott & Son front loading double I had, my gosh, that's been 60 years ago. Killed some Whitewing doves with it. Can you sell the pheasant skins to fly tiers?

Thanks gents.
No bag limits over here. I am glad for just one at this time.
Pheasant feathers are available everywhere for tying over here. I just stick one or two in my hat.
Daryl, yes, I could take you to some areas over here and show you some sights peasant wise!

Every time I take a bird with a muzzleloader and see that blue/ white smoke hanging around a while it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside :D

Y'all have a good safe winter, keep your bones warm and don't drink to much anti freeze!

I am surrounded by bloody Pheasants, the local keeper's release pen is is just the other side of the woods where I squirrel hunt, they wander around like barnyard fowl eating the wild bird food I put out. :|
Nath, you sure are right about muzzle loaders giving maximum satisfaction on knocking them Ringnecks out of the sky... :D I use a .410 later in the season just to make it interesting... gotta get another front stuffer..

Nice Ringtail, Nath !

The thing I like best about feasting on Pheasant is that eating the breast meat feels like chewing a beef steak - the meat is that dense.

It also makes a pretty good soup, too...…..
