Just walked out to the field and took four shots at the gong at 100 yards off hand and hit it every time, tomorrow i`ll put a target up and see what she`ll do.
1919 model 94 half round half octagon 30-30

That 100 YO rifle is probably in better condition than we are.

Haven't fired mine in years, wish I had a homestead where I could shoot.

Hmmm an 1819 model 94 in 30-30. Worth a million bucks if true. Probably a typo, maybe 1918?

I enjoy owning and shooting old rifles. I have a Model 94, 30WCF, round barrel rifle, long barrel, not carbine, made in 1898 or 1897, can't remember which year now. I had to replace the front sight on it when I got because the original had been filed down way too short. I had to put a taller one on. I have killed deer with it. It's as effective as a brand new one. When I hunt with a gun like that, I often sit and wonder who bought it new and who owned it during it young life. It's fun to speculate how it was in some hunter's hands before Teddy Roosevelt made his famous charge during the Cuba campaign.

Yes, the old ones are magic to hold... my 1899 .30-30 I wonder who owned it new, and what stories it could tell!

When you shoot a antique firearm I like to think you are adding to it's history for future owners, it is a shame that It's history will mostly remain hidden
but it is fun to speculate.

Dang i did that once before too, fixed it thanks for bring it to my attention.

I`m with you guys when i look at it i wonder who had it and what it`s done,was the barrel done that way at the factory of did the owner do it.
It has a blank where the front hanger would of been.

Very true! We rarely know where or what these old guns have seen or done! But it's still fun to imagine what their past has been like, or who owned them?
I own some antique guns that have well documented history of their ownership, and they are the favorites in my collection for that reason.

Well it was fun shootin but worthless on testing a load because i just see the fine sights on this rifle.
The load is a Hornady 170 gr. JFN over 25 gr of 4198.

Thanks fellers, the rear sight on this rifle are real fine it has a name which i forgot it looks like a filed down buck horn.
I can still see the sights on the Marlin Cowboy and Garand pretty good.

Enjoyed the video Lenn, thanks for sharing.
My Marlin 30-30, which has a 24" octagon barrel, has an aperture (peep) rear sight, and a well visible front post. Noticed my range is shrinking with age, but still a fun gun to shoot.

Looks just like the one on my '86 from 1916. Must have been a popular sight in that era. Mine works pretty good for me with the Redfield Sourdough front I found for it. 'Course I prob'ly filed the notch out to match the front sight I put on it.

When i got this rifle and could see i shot a 2 1/4 in group at 100 yards and a 2 1/2 at 175 yards, some may remember that and how flat shooting it was.
So the gun is real accurate, i think the pics are on PB so can`t post them or even find them.

Lenn, a truly wonderful rifle. Don't feel bad about those fine open sights. I was looking at a Model 1888 Trapdoor Springfield the other day, and when I tried in vain to make hide or hair of those very fine Buffington sights, I put it back in the rack. I had to admit those days are basically over for me without buying a pair of special glasses.
