Parker 10 gauge 0 grade 4 frame 34 inch

Post by 6pt-sika »

Shot some patterns at the range today with the Parker 10 gauge 0 grade on the 4 frame that has 34” barrels . I had the rib relaid on this gun three or four months ago . The thing is choked pretty open . Tried both barrels with 00 and 000 and while it wasn’t the best I’d shoot it at a deer . Also shot three shot groups with home cast slugs of 630 grains with a solid base . Shot a pair of groups from each barrel at 25 yards and I thought these did very well . Oh yeah the mold was actually made by Bikerbeans for a 12 gauge rifled gun . I got it from him and it seems to do well in the 10 gauge , the slugs fit nicely in the shot cup of the SP-10 wads .

Cool beans, looks like the slugs would work great on big game. 8)

You using any buffer on the shot load? I found my Richardson double did better with "0" and some buffer sifted into the shot load, but it is a strange old gun, both barrels have been re-choked some time in the past. they come in around the IM now, 34" barrels you just have to know when made it was a F/F gun

Yeah 4.3 cc of buffer . It wasn’t necissarily rechoked . I’ve seen several of these old birds that were very open frommthe factory . I’ve got a Parker EH 10 gauge that was made in 1891 with factory original 28” barrels choked cylinder and lite IC . One would think they had been teamed out but the PGCA letter stated right barrel cylinder and left just a slight amount of construction . And on the other hand I have another Parker GH 10 gauge circa 1904 with 34” barrels choked tighter then the hinges of well you know . That one took me 3 or 4 boxes before I was getting on 16 yard trap targets , the gun is actually TO TIGHT .

I have a circa 1891 Parker EH 10 gauge that’s got factory original 28” barrels and is choked cylinder and very light IC . One would think it had been opened , but it hasn’t ! I got the letter on the gun from the Parker Collectors Association and that’s what the stock books say when the gun was ordered . I used it last season to plow a doe at 26 yards using my homemade 0000 Buck , and as you might imagine it floorboarded her . The load only has eight pellets !!! Below is the gun across the foe it pummeled

That's a nice rig, looking at 10ga's with barrels short than the 30-34" just look funny, had a dear friend that had an English 8ga that had 28" barrels and that looked funny with out the normal 34" or longer tubes

I have factory original Parker EH 10’s with barrels of 28 , 30 , 32 and 34 . They made a very few with 26 inch in the EH grade and of course I’d like one . They even went so far as an EH with 24 inch barrels but supposedly they made maybe six of them . Doubt I’ll ever see a factory original 24 or 26 inch EH but one can hope .
