Sights for the Puma 92
I would like to get a long(er) range sight for my Puma 92 .44mag but I can't seem to find what I want. Ideally, it would be multiple folding leafs but I think those are for the longer range rifles. I guess I could go for my stock sights set to 75 yds with a long range sight set to 150yds. Is this possible to do without too much fanfare or am I looking at changing out a couple of things?
What options do I have for ladder or aperture sights that can co-exist with my stock sights?

Yup, I just did the same. Ordered a Marbles Tang Sight this past weekend.505stevec wrote:I am going with the Marbles Tang Sight for mine. Not only does it look cool but they greatly improve accuracy even for the pistol caliber rifles. You can find these on Midway USA.

I really like the tang sights for 'precision' open sight work. The Williams FP's are more rugged though.
Mine are all 'generic' Taurus ones (for their model 62 - they also fit the Pumas) and have worked really well (I can't tell any way they are inferior to the Marble on a friend's gun). The price was a sale price something around $30 each (so I got one for all 4 Pumas plus an extra), which let me set up four guns for the price of ONE Marble. Since then, I think Taurus has discontinued the sight, which may be why I got them cheap. You might check on CheaperThanDirt or SportsmansGuide website if you are interested. If nothing else, a cheap way to try out the tang to see if it is what you want. If so, and you don't like the Taurus, you can always replace it and you're only out the $30 or can use it as a spare or on another gun...

Install a tang sight & zero it for the longer distance(s).
Switch out the rear barrel sight for a folder, and zero it for the shorter distance(s).
Both will use the issue front sight blade OK, unless you want to make a material change, like switch to an Ivory or Gold bead, etc.
I hunt with mine setup like that, with the tanger folded so I can take snap shots with the barrel sights.
If game is spotted afar, I usually have enough time to fold the barrel sight & raise the tanger for the shot. YMMV, of course.

Steve Young tuned this .357 EMF short rifle and installed his tang sight. He also made & installed a sweet old timey sight blank for the dovetail.

I might be a little leery of a tanger being too close to my eye w/44 full house loads… The fold down feature in combo with the barrel rear sight is a great set up tho..There is one other option that comes to mind that’s not too far from your flip idea of flip up sights ...And that is a flip up ladder sight just like the original Win 92 carbines came equipped with.. check it out.. http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,3023.html

Those are cool for the 92's. I sell the same one when folks want a period correct carbine sight for their 92.
The problem with mounting it and the express folders on the Rossi 92 is the dovetail in the Rossi barrels have been running a bit on the large size. Some are just too big for standard 3/8" sight bases. On some of them I've had to solder shims to the bottom of the sights to take up the slack.
I like the folding tang and folding barrel sight setup the best.

Who makes the folding rear with step elevator in the picture? I can only find the Marble's folding long leaf but it does not use a step elevator. Re: Sights for the Puma 92
Good morning
I have been shooting tang sights for 30 + years and have never been hurt by one. I shoot up to caliber .50 cartrige guns so these are heavy recoilers.
If your eye is so close to the sight it can touch you then you need to learn to shoot by not be creaping up the stock. If you will hold your head in a more natural upright position this will relax a whole series of neck muscles.
Some folks have large necks or large heads that maybe necesitate the extended neck position to get the shooting eye low enough to see the targets. The better solution is a taller sight set up.

The folding sight with a step elevator is NOT a Marbles #95. A Marble's does not have the step elevator and is a bit shorter in overall length. I am interestred in the step elevator folding sight to go along with my Maarble's Tang sight.COSteve wrote:It is a Marbles #95 and you can get it at Brownells too. While you're at it, take a look at Marbles tang and 1/16" bead front sight (3/32" is std but the 1/16" is much better for precision shooting). As Steve said, I had to take a chisel and knock a few perpendicular groves into the edges of the sights' dovetails to get a tight fit but that is easy enough to accomplish.Saltcreek wrote:Who makes the folding rear with step elevator in the picture? I got the set for my 24" Rossi 357mag and I think they are great. Even with my old 62 eyes, the increased Depth of Field makes both the front sight and the target crystal clear when I use the target aperture. Accuracy you ask? Yesterday I was at the range again and I was shooting our 18"w x 9" h steel ram with mine . . . . . . . . . . . . . at 300yds!!

Re: Sights for the Puma 92
I bought almost the same front bead and rear sight as COSteve and it's very accurate. However, Steve was setting his .357 up and mine are .44mags. I found that the 37W 579-104-131(.410 height) front bead worked better than the 41W 579-103-731(.375 height) that he used. The one Steve used caused both mine to shoot a bit high.

You sir are absolutely correct!!! I failed to notice the elevator.Saltcreek wrote:The folding sight with a step elevator is NOT a Marbles #95. Re: Sights for the Puma 92
I was really considering a marble tang sight but after having put one on my 9422 I am no longer so sure. Yes it works fine, but it's wobbly, and it's apparently meant to be like that. But I can't stand the wobbling on the sight of all places. So I am currently giving a lot of thought to a Williams FP sight instead.

i bought 6 of these folding rear sights with elevator from numrich/gunparts corp. a few years back and use them just like steve says. they were fairly inexpensive but well made blued steel. could not find them online but they were in the catalog.
also as to tang sights hitting your eye: i have tang sights on all sorts of rifle includin very heavy loaded 45/70s and head position is important but ALSO ALWAYS WEAR SHOOTING GLASSES! if you do you will not hurt your eye, even if you get to close to the tang sight. this has saved me when shooting heavy loads from the bench especially, several times.
