September....
...has an R in it and R is for Wabbit
The little .45 made good smoke and soon gave me a mess of rabbit. The load today was 5x.36" ball, a buck shot load for raging chargin' wabbits!
Oh and last night i sat out watching it go dark over a hay field not long cut for a fox I noticed there the night before! The vintage Winchester wmr ammo works well!
22yards.

September, a great month to be out and about.
In my neck of the woods the wabbits died out with the dreaded virus but this morning I saw one dead on the road not far from where I live, so hopefully they may return....

Re: September....
We do not have much in the way of wabbit in my area either. We have a boatload of coyote though. Hmmm wonder if that is connected??? Nah a coyote wouldn’t eat a wabbit....would they?

Re: September....
Fox at 22 yards? Either they have no concern about humans or you are undetectable by canines!
Around here the rabbit population is just about nil. Lots of fox and Wiley Coyote's though.

Re: September....
I fear the wabbits will struggle to build their numbers, too many preditors here too, mainly Badgers and Buzzards.

Those are some healthy looking rabbits, Nath. Well Done.
Here in the Dallas suburbs, we are overrun with cottontails.
I think I might start setting snares in my landscaping.

I applaud your efforts Nath. I need to take the time to kill a couple of squirrels. I find myself craving dumplings with them. My Dad would make me avoid head shots as he liked the brain and tongue. The tongues taste like hickory nuts but you probably know that. Give Jess a pat for me.

I live in town, and we have several cottontails running around the neighborhood. There is a place about a mile away where some folks have about 3 acres in town that is all trees and brush, and I see coyotes going in and out of there all the time. If it were not in town I am sure someone would be killing those 'yotes.

Re: September....
Our rabbit numbers are up & down from season to season. Squirrels just made an appearance after a couple years absence. Resident roadrunner moved to the neighbor's yard, didn't like me trimming his home.

Re: September....
I like seeing roadrunners. To me they mean safety since they keep the snake population down. I understand the need for snakes to keep the rodent population under control, and the roadrunners do the same for the snakes. I have seen 1 copperhead in the yard this Summer. Checking the fangs with a stick after using a hoe to make it a good snake showed proof of fangs. I buried the head about a foot deep and placed a large rock on top of that. I didn't want a dog getting curious and being bitten. There is a 14 to 14 inch grass snake of some kind that hangs out in the flower beds in the front yard. We let it be. No harm, and probably a bunch of help from it.
