I took the Model 94 Trapper Takedown to the range
I took the Model 94 .30-30 Trapper takedown carbine to the range today. This gun was made in 1964 according to the serial number and started life as a regular Model 94 carbine.
I took pics of how the rifle takes down with the button under the front band on the mag tube. Push the button, slide the mag tube forward and then turn the barreled, tube and forearm counter clockwise and it all takes down.
I shot it with 170 grain Remington loads, and it's not all that bad. I've heard that some takedown lever guns are not as accurate as solid frame guns. I busted a couple of clay targets with it at 25 yards offhand so it should be good on deer out to 100 yards or so. Right now I am looking for a case of some kind, I want an older leather case, something that isn't new or tactical.

David, a folding Lyman or Marble's tang peep would give you probably 30 to 40 percent more sight radius and enhance field accuracy.
Long ago, Abercrombie & Fitch made and sold canvas cases for many of the takedown Winchesters. If you can find an image of one, you could use that as a pattern for a leather case.

My takedown case is a canvas folder like these - but mine has a buckled leather strap that keeps the loaded case folded while carrying.
