Thanks for putting that up! Olean, NY is not far from our cabin in PA just outside of the city the Case factory is based. Great history up there.

Bought one for my son. I have Bowie style in other steels from other manufacturers. A Bowie style with a good steel is a great knife for fighting or survival.

Re: The KA-BAR Story
Good video, I have always been interested in the design.
John Nowill of Sheffield makes a combat knife, supposed to be for the Israeli military, it is a similar design to the KA-BAR but a lot of reviewers of the knife say "just buy a KA-BAR"

Re: The KA-BAR Story
Glad ya enjoyed the vid, might as well post some pics of knives.
Bought this one a few years back, made by United Cutler, it has a thick sheath.
Bought another today on ebay that was made in 1970 and marked KA-BAR on the blade.

Re: The KA-BAR Story
I remember seeing a movie where Robert Mitchum played a USMC Corporal stranded on a Japanese occupied island with only his KA-BAR and Deborah Kerr for company.

Re: The KA-BAR Story
Pretty neat!
As many knives as I have, I've never owned a Ka-Bar.

Re: The KA-BAR Story
I've picked up a few over the years but this one is my favorite and has a good story.
I'd bought my first house in the early '90s and there was an auction a couple blocks away one summer afternoon. I stopped by since there were some old tools advertised. About halfway through the auction they brought up a couple of Ka-Bars. I bought them both for $20 each if I remember right. Took them to work the next morning and showed them to my dad. Turns out the house belonged to his high school shop teacher who was an LST skipper in the Pacific. I gave him the one that was in really good shape and kept the other. The second one had a story carved into the scabbard.
On the front, below the USN are the initials along with Kathy + Tim 1944.
On the back is even more. Tulagi, Guadal Canal, Pearl Harbor.
Chelsea Naval Hosp. Ocean View.
The Navy marked knife is actually one made by the PAL Knife co. Well used but well cared for too.

Re: The KA-BAR Story
Wow! Awesome. For me, with all the years and the loss of all our WW2 vets, the stories are as priceless as the artifacts.

Never knew how shiny and clean Kabars could be! One of 1st things i do at gunshows is look at bayonets and combat knives..
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
