Re: Put the side hack on the 77
Sorry bud. We just put a caliper on my dads old truck last week. Same thing. It sits and sits.

Re: Put the side hack on the 77
I don't have a bike, but from what I hear - there is a big market for Harley parts because they are supposedly built to be fixed and keep running forever. Is that correct?

I wonder if Rollie Free ever raced a Harley? Or, did he stick with Indians and Vincents?

Re: Put the side hack on the 77
That is correct. Nearly all the wear parts have replaceable parts, and are generally refitted by honing or boring to oversize bearings, new shafts etc, when they reach maximum oversize, the bearing races are replaced and start over. Cylinders can be re-sleeved to get back to standard size pistons once the maximum oversize is reached, and now replacement cylinders are available aftermarket back to the 1930s, same with heads, and now even the motor cases (the serial numbered part on older ones that determines title number and age) are available aftermarket. Part of the reason is many parts were used from the 1930s onwards even in updated models, so there isnt 9 million possible gaskets, bearings, gears, etc that constantly changed with every size and model and year like many foreign bikes suffer from, and they often have a difficult time finding parts, in stock or even available at all. With the H-Ds even when exact original parts arent available, the modernized version of the part often works in the older models.
I was just looking for headlight dimmer switches for the pre-"multi-switch box on the handlebar" type, the part numbers for that is from 1929, they used them until about 1970-ish.
A friend has an early 70s Yamaha that needs a kick start gear. The only ones he can find are expensive and only old used parts. Harley used the same basic kick start parts in the big twins from the 30s through at least the early 80s, the limit of my knowledge of them. Theres many aftermarket makers of those parts, I dont know if H-D still has or makes them, but the parts are easily available.

Now you have to go for a little road trip again. It sounds as it is asking for you to go have fun.
