Scope Rings for The 1895G

I am doing the un-thinkable, Been trying to place a scope on my Guide Gun.

I purchased the XS-sight systems rail, mounted my scope with high rings and after 20 rounds of 325 grains Hornady's new ammo the ring in the rear tore loose from the mount. The rings that i used came with another scope purchased from NcStar. Has anyone had this problem on their guide gun using the high mounts. I was wondering if maybe I should use Med, or Low style rings. Don't want to waste my $$$ on something thats never going to work. So.. which style of rings works best for this type of gun. (High, Med, Low) Your Thoughts

If your using a leupold scout scope, quick release leupold LOW rings are the way to go. I have the same setup.

.45-70 + High rings + a large/heavy scope = a prescription for scope/mount breakage/slippage.

What scope are you using ? The shorter/lighter, the better.

Also, in the end, there's no substitute for good steel rings.

Yes. Mount the scope as low as possible. If you are using the XS lever scout base try the Burris or Leupold 2.75x extended eye relief. I generally lean towards the Warne Q.D. but the Leupold version should be equally fine. Regards. 1886.

Yep, what everyone said. Good scope and good mounts is the only way to go. I use lo QR Leupold rings along with a Leupold scout scope with the same set-up your using, XS ghost ring.

Thanks guys for the response, most of the advise i'm getting is pointing to the Leupold rings so based on the input from this froum "Ive ordered a set of Leupold QRW 1"rings. I am going to try the Medium, because i found an old set of weaver (low) style rings in my junk box, tried that and my scope bottoms out before the rings can grab the base rail. I think the MED will work. The scope that i'm using is a Bushnell 3x9x40. (AWP101, your right the first NcStar scope i put on my 300 win mag got damanged before the first box of ammo was fired. So i got a replacement and so far it has held up, but who knows for how long. I don't plan on using the scope very much on the 1895G only when the conditions call for it. I just dont want to head into deer season this coming year unprepared. I'll most likly use the ghost rings. I did very well with the M16 while serving in the military and those old peep sights served me pretty well. Thanks again..

I've found lately that B-Square rings are really good for me. I like them a lot better than the Weaver brand. They seem to be made much better to me. They also cost less. I just ordered 3 pair from Midsouth for $7 & change per pair.

One thing i like about the weaver rings (That i could not get to work on the XS-rail) is they were made out of steel and only had screws on one side. I purchased thoses for the side mount on the shotgun which never got used. Once you strip a screw head it's a pain to try and find another screw to fit.

I have heard some bad things said of NCStar, and it seems based on the report here that what was said is true. I have not used any of their stuff, and I don't plan to. I like the Weaver and the Leupold stuff that I have used.

I have a Leupold fixed 2.5 in Weaver rings and have no issues - I can take them off and put them back on time and time again without missing a beat.

Plain Weavers are removable and the Leaupld scope is just the ticket on the Guide Gun.
