Planning trip to MT,WY. Need suggestions.
My bride and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary by taking a sightseeing, fly fishing trip. About 10 days. Flying in/out of Jackson. Spending at least the first couple of nights in Jackson, probably do a float on the Snake. Gonna spend one night in the old part of the Old Faithful Inn, at least a couple of nights near Grayling/Quake Lake.
Where else to stay/see?

Nice. There's unlimited stuff to see and do for a thousand miles from Jackson in any direction. My only suggestion is to get out of Jackson. To me Jackson was badly crowded with pseudo-big shots in cowboy hats. I'm not big on going TO see things, I just love to drive and enjoy the country. Rent a car and enjoy. Others can probably make better recommendations than I.

Most people who live in Wyoming stay well clear of the town of Jackson, bunch of uber-rich phonies for the most part, always packed shoulder to shoulder with tourists. If there IS anything to see there, about 2 hours should do it, that is , if you can find a place to park.
You might enjoy the raft trip down the Snake. Teton Park is spectacular for scenery. Drive over the hill to the little burg of Dubois, have lunch in the Cowboy Cafe.
In Wyoming, there are sometimes miles and miles of miles and miles. You can spend half your vacation and beat yourself to death just driving madly from point to point to catch a glimpse of something or other. Millions of others do it, as you will see. Try to pick a nice spot and spend some time there enjoying yourself and relaxing, that's what vacations are for. You can check out another spot next time you come out.

There are a couple of sweet spots to fish right near Jackson. Flat Creek has some really pretty cutthroats. Just up past the elk refuge on the Teton side of the road is a sweet little hole at Blacktail Ponds overlook too. Dubois looks like a winner.

If you were driving I'd tell you to grease the wheel bearings on the trailer before you left... dont ask me how I know!

Probably need to make your motel reservations now if you plan to stay within 100 miles of Yellowstone/Teton NP between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Jackson-Dubois-Lander-Thermopolis-Cody-Old Faithful-Jackson (or the other way around), with a night or two spent in each, would be a nice tour of NW Wyoming if you enjoy driving.
The more I think about it the more I'm prone to second njyork when he wrote "Try to pick a nice spot and spend some time there enjoying yourself and relaxing, that's what vacations are for."
But as levergunners we wouldn't be doing you any favors if we didn't direct you to that museum in Cody

Booked two nights in Dubois. I think Ashton,ID is next with some fishing on the Henry/Warm River then up the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway to Grayling for a couple of nights then to Old Faithful Inn then back to Jackson.
I’ve been to Cody. Bride not so fond of The Museum idea.

Since you have already been to Cody, Idaho is a good idea. I hear there are a few pretty big fish in the Henry.

Just put your foot down. Wimmins appreciate that firm, manly approach.

Hand her a fistful of cash and tell her you will meet her at her restaurant of choice for dinner, go to the museum. Then spend the next week doing dumb shopping stuff to make it up to her.

If you are going to Dubois, at least take the short drive from near the top of Togotee pass (on the way to Dubois) up to Brooks lake. The scenery is stupendous and there a couple of cool lakes to the west of Brooks (NW of parking area) that I always did well with native cutthroat. It is a short walk of a mile or so and not much of a climb. Check one of the fishing sites or the state about the upper lakes (forget their name) before you take the hike. One time I went and there was nothing and found out that they poisoned the lake to get rid of trash. They are hyper serious about keeping them native species only.

I've met buddies from Fla and Ala the last 2 years in Bozeman, and we fish out of Ennis, see Yellowstone, Jackson Hole..etc..
Re: Planning trip to MT,WY. Need suggestions.
If you're in Jackson you can always come visit Jackson Hole Gun Club. About 3 miles south of town. I live there and you're welcome to come shoot. Lots of fishing all around. Right now its between skiing and tourist season so its not crowded.
Re: Planning trip to MT,WY. Need suggestions.
Sadly, this is true of Jackson. It is still worth a look, but take one of those days you would spend in Jackson and use it somewhere else. Fishing in Yellowstone can be quite good, I fish the Lamar every week in the summer and there are some good fish. Quake lake is good for dries on top in the evenings, where the water runs out.BlaineG wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 4:49 pm Nice. You are also withing a couple hours of the Custer Battlefield and I would stongly suggest a stop there...

WINNER! WINNER! CHICKEN DINNER!
Blaine! I took your advice.
NOT
However:
Three days in Cody, thank you.
Nice Airbnb outside of town. They have a dog. Yea. and A/C.
Booked a hiking/wading fly fishing trip on the Greybull. Away from the heavily fished waters. Perfect.
So Jackson two nights, Dubois two nights, Cody three nights, Old Faithful Inn (old part) one night, Jackson one night and back home.
Fishing, maybe shooting, hiking, SWIMBO shopping, dining, star gazing. . . Really looking forward to it.
