Costner & Harrelson.......
You get a chance watch The Highwaymen with kevin costner as Frank Hamer and woody harrelson as Maney Gault.
If they don't win some awards for either filmmaking or dramatic performances then the award system is busted beyond repair.
They got everything right down to the japanese privet cut and used to make the roadside blind.
Costner has a Remington 8 but with a factory magazine. Hamer's was said to have an extended, 15 or 20 shot magazine.
I'll have to watch it again but the actor portraying Prentis Oakley looks to be using either a 1905 or 1907 winchester self-loading rifle with an extended magazine. He was said to actually be using a stock Remington 8 in .35.
The only thing I can see technically historically incorrect is the urban mowed lawns. Back then only the rich had mowed lawns. The poor groomed their yards and gardens by either hoeing, pulling, or raking any grasses or weeds, leaving bare soil......Or they neglected it altogether and let it grow into a jungle like harper lee's old radley place.

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Thanks for the heads up, I've just added it to my list.
I liked the subtitle used at one point...
"The Outlaws Made Headlines -- The Lawmen Made History"
I'll have to watch it soon!

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Watched it Friday night ... it is well done and tells the story from the lawman's point of view instead of glamorizing lawlessness. Most everything in the film seemed to be "period correct" .... the way the ladies dressed even got my daughter wanting to dress like that. I will watch it again for sure.

It must be a great movie since CNN Entertainment panned it as sluggish, and predictable. Anything they don't like, I know I'll love!

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Watched it last night. Outstanding film. They took the time to develop the characters. Film is about as accurate as they get. A lot of detail. If you know your history then you will like it. I have no doubt the reason that cnn panned it is because they're only into instant self gratification. These were slower times and the film reflected that.

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
I thought it to be an excellent movie. Usually the Bonnie and Clyde movies romanticize their story rather than show it for what it really was. I knew Costner was going to try to be as historically accurate as possible and I thought it was done quite well in this dept also.
Won't give any spoilers but that scene when Costner goes into the Gun Shop........me if I ever hit the lottery.

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Excellent movie one of the only movies made in the last few years that I can say I actually enjoyed. Finally gives Frank hamer and maney gault the credit they've deserved for years. They got old lucky replicated but I think it had hard rubber grips not pearl. Not to spoil it but in the gun shop when he's getting the guns together says about the Winchester 94 being he needed one gun that won't jam I had to smile.
Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
I read some of the liberal elitist reviews of this film and here are a couple of their knuckleheaded points......
"The film is too long and it lacks dramatic pause and character introspection."
Does anybody else see an obvious contradiction in that last sentence ? Even if you shorten somewhat the expansive aerial second unit shots, adding character introspection and having the actor bare his/her soul into the lense, you cannot make it any shorter by doing that.
"Highwaymen is obviously and unashamedly MAGA esque"
Now that's funny !

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Most of the liberal artsy fartsy reviewers are looking at movies much differently than we do. They want to see movies that address issues they consider important, rather than what we consider important. Their ideas of history are never the same as ours, and they'd much prefer Oliver Stone's twisted version, than the truth.
I personally don't want to see some skewed version of history, just because it makes a certain point. I want it to be accurate, even if it bores the heck out of the liberal critics.

Great movie. I watched it last night. The best parts were Woody and Kevin flippin' each other "stuff". Too bad we can't turn a couple of real men like that loose on ANTIFA, BLM, and other various and assorted socialist scum.

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Costner makes a good movie, but he is for more gun control and is on almost everyone's list of actors who are anti-gun. Google "Kevin Costner gun control" or something similar if you don't believe me. It's a real shame, because he has talent - for making movies.

It's a shame rangerider7 does not post anymore, I would have liked to hear his opinion on it, I believe he knew quite a lot of Texas Ranger history, especially Frank Hamer.

BLM? The Bureau of Land Management? God bless the men and women of the old-guard BLM and the U.S. Forest Service. Heroes in my book. The agencies have changed, but I still respect them.
As to Woody Harrelson, a vegan, he was once named one of PETA's "sexiest vegetarians," and he identifies as an anarchist when he isn't getting into assaults. His father was a convicted hit man who died in prison.

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
I guess I'll never get to see it. I canceled my Netflix subscription after they hired Obama. I did see an interview with Costner & Harrelson on Youtube about the movie. It seems both of the actors really got into the parts and did their own research into the facts. The death scene in the movie was filmed at the location of the actual event. They also said that the lawmen involved in the ambush didn't talk much about it after everything was done because they felt that the public would have a poor opinion of them for killing a woman.

YEP..... I won't watch such movies in any format where there will be revenue generated for those sphincters. I'll wait for it to go 'generic' or watch a bootleg copy. More likely, I'll just never watch it. I know that means I'll miss some great movies, but I have to draw the line somewhere.Woodtroll wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 3:27 pm Costner makes a good movie, but he is for more gun control and is on almost everyone's list of actors who are anti-gun. As to BLM, how in the HELL can you see ANTIFA and BLM written next to each other and conflate BLM with the Land Managament folks?Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:35 pm BLM? Just saw this movie on Netflix.
Pretty good. Meanders a bit, but it's not so slow as to be boring. Gotta remember these guys are hunting.
It's a thoughtful movie.
I liked it.

I liked it! Nice amounts of wood and blued steel. Liked the choice of 1917 Smiths' to go with the 1911s

Watched it the first night it was on Netflix. I liked it, as did my wife. There is so little worth watching these days. Nice to see a movie that did not glorify the bad guys.

Re: Costner & Harrelson.......
Well worth watching, but like most true stories the ending was a predictable let-down.
Movie slowly coasted at the end. They could have added an epilogue.
