This is what Benchmade calls an apology
You would think they would hire a professional PR firm to put this together. This is the most unsincere, unprofessional, cut & paste, justification of what they did. He couldn't even use the word "firearms". He had to say "things".

Wow.................
That is really amazing.
He basically just said 'Benchmade is committed to being a great company, and making great knifes, and oh, by the way, we say we support the Second Amendment...'
This is what I just left on their 'contact us' page, not that it will make a difference:
Here's the deal, Mr. Les de Asis (...and I'm gonna be good and not twist your name like I'm tempted...) if you want to not go down the tubes like the fecal matter your company seems to have become, you have two choices I can think of:
a) you donate $1 million each to the NRA, GOA, and the SAF, and do it in public, or
b) you pledge (and prove) you will donate 5% of your profits to those organizations, forever.
Until then, enjoy the swirling...

I forget exactly when,(ca 2007-ish) but the owner of Leatherman, also in OR, stepped on his tallywhacker vis-a-vis Firearms and is still in hot water , and he has not changed his opinions on the need for gun control.
Companies like Benchmade and Leatherman, and others, that make their living from Outdoorsmen and Gun People should have the sense not to offend their customers.

If you are going to the NRA show, Benchmade's booth is directly behind MagPul.

Re: This is what Benchmade calls an apology
Mr. de Asis has put himself and his company in a rough.
I'd think that he might be excused if he'd just been a good citizen trying to help out the local cops, but when the fire started on the Internet and people began to investigate his personal politics, his d_ck was in the wringer.
The only path that Benchmade has now is to let the storm blow over and then assess the damage and try to repair their image.
They'd be doing themselves a big favor by hiring a new honcho. If they don't, Mr. de Asis politics will continue to affect their bottom line.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

Re: This is what Benchmade calls an apology
Leatherman went so far as to make a public announcement years ago when Tim Leatherman's left wing donations came to light, and say those were his personal beliefs, but did not represent the company or it's employees.
I found that hilarious also, as money going into the company ended up in Tim's pocket. So what's the difference if it's the company's or the owner's? It was kinda like, "Don't take it out on us, we want to save our jobs!"
I'm waiting for the same similar response from Benchmade in the future. "Please don't boycott us, as we employees like getting paid!" and "We're not responsible for what our owner does!"
On another forum I frequent some new guy just joined (coincidence?) to say that he's know Les De Asis for years, and he's a "good guy" and "not anti gun". He went on to complain how BM is getting crucified for simply helping OCPD when whoever usually cuts up their guns was "too busy to help". Like OCPD just couldn't wait any longer to get these guns cut up?
He also said that BM "has to donate to local left wing politicians, based simply on doing business in Oregon". What the heck? Is this like the Democratic Mafia, where they stop in and Guido says make a donation or we'll break your knees? Hilarious.
Pretty sure the new guy was a plant by Benchmade to try to explain away their involvement in both the gun destruction, and political contributions. I expect to see new people joining all sorts of gun web sites and trying to put a bandaid on this whole thing. Surely BM has PR folks who can join here and explain this all to us, and make us feel warm and cozy!

I was looking for a new knife last weekend. I nearly bought a Benchmade. I ended up walking out with a Zero-Tolerance after my wife convinced me to get what I really wanted. This was before I read about the traitorous activities of Benchmade. I’m glad things worked out that way.

Re: This is what Benchmade calls an apology
This is a very good interview with Gun Talk, and well worth listening to!
Here's the latest interview with Benchmade's PR guy who is a pretty honest guy, and trying to explain away Benchmade's position. Unfortunately he can't explain their lobbying group, who have a long history of working for Liberal causes.
The PR guy also admits this destruction of firearms is not a one time thing, but a contract they've had with OCPD for several years, or more.
I actually felt bad for BM's representative while talking to Gun Talk, as he was in such a position that nothing he could say could defend BM's position, or past acts.

I heard the GT interview the other day. The PR guy earned his pay, but is just spouting what Les wants him to spout.
I'm really surprised Les still won't come out and state a real apology. I guess they figure this will blow over, be a temporary loss of business, and the military contracts will sustain them.

If it wasn't for 'socialist media' no one would have know that BM is a liberal anti company. That being said if BM was smart they never would have shown the video. I'm glad I don't own anything from them. If I did I would have cut it up while taking video and then posted it online for the world to see.

Re: This is what Benchmade calls an apology
I would have thought that a PR or marketing guy who is willing to talk to Gun Talk to accomplish damage control would have been well prepared. He'd have found out everything about anything bad, and made changes to their routine. So when Gun Talk asked about the gun destruction, and the donations, and lobbyists, he could tell them it had all been corrected. But all he could say was they weren't going to be destroying anymore guns.jdad wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:29 am I heard the GT interview the other day. He was so surprised by the information on their lobbyist group that all he could do was sit there dead silent when told. That was a huge deal, and from his silence I could tell there was nothing he could say to fix it. He should have told him he'd look into it, and make changes in who they use. But I doubt he has the clout to do that, so he was left with nothing to say. Not good to be caught with your pants down, and no ability to pull them up!

Yes, the Gun Talk host was gentle to him, but didn't hold back on the facts. And I felt a twinge of sadness for the Marketing guy also. Tough to be in that position, and not have all your ducks in a row. No response to the Gun Talk host's facts except dead silence. Poor guy, but tough luck for BM.Rusty wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 11:35 pmAfter listening to the Gun Talk interview I got the feeling the Benchmade Rep kind of had that deer in the headlights look while he was talking.
