Ah ! the myth of the frontier tactical reload.

Pony express riders were said to carry extra, loaded/capped cylinders for their '49 colts.

Somebody please 'splain me how they loosened the keeper screw and tapped out the wedge to remove the barrel in order to change the cylinder while the seething throng of commanche circled into lance and arrow range.

Eastwood being cleverly dexterous under fire in unforgiven and pale rider only helped perpetrate the myth.
