I used to build all sorts of stuff using the relays and integrated circuits and switches and transistors and capacitors and resistors and so on that I was a regular customer at Radio Shack.
In fact, back in the 1980's I pointed out to a Medical Device Representative that the components of the TENS unit their company sold to the hospital for $750.00 were all available at a total RETAIL cost of about $20, and would take even an amateur like myself only about an hour to assemble. (His comment was that since anyone using a TENS who fell off a ladder, wrecked their car, got struck by lightning, had their cat get distemper, or any other thing they could blame the deep-pocket company for, would result in a few hundred thousand dollar settlement, so they put $500 per device sold in escrow for all the frivolous lawsuits... ).
Anyway, Radio Shack degenerated to selling cellphones about ten years ago, and now even those stores are all closed around where I live.
Where do you get your stuff to make things...??? Just getting a simple magnetic reed-switch I needed 'same-day' recently proved nearly impossible without a long drive, and even if I weren't in a hurry, I don't know the best places to order small quantities of such things.
Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws "first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

We've got plenty of resources here. Not sure all of them are available where you are. URS has a number of locations here. Fry's is another good source. I often go to Ebay if I'm not in too big a hurry, as they generally are cheaper, and easier.
