Oh heck I did it again !
Seems a rather decent looking circa 1881 Parker Grade 1 10 gauge lifter found its way to me . This ones on a 2 frame with 30” twist steel barrels . I already have a circa 1881 Grade 2 10 gauge on a 3 frame with 30” damascus barrels . Also this new to me gun is an English (straight grip) stock . Intrested to see how this one will do with 00 , 0 and 1 buck handloads .

Interesting...
What loads do you use with twist or Damascus barrels -- blackpowder or low-pressure loads or handloads?
I passed on a sweet English 16ga recently due to the Damascus barrels, as the rib was loose and the barrels were mighty thin at the muzzle...
Tell us more please on how you shoot those -- OR inspect them prior to shooting too?!

If the barrels ring true and don’t have any deep pits I usually shoot . Mostly my handloads with smokeless , although I have a Parker GH 16 that was made in 1911 and is damascus that I shoot the promotional dove quail loads . Think I have 19 or 20 guns with damascus or twist barrels that I shoot , some more often then the others of course . I shoot the previously mentioned 16 Parker quite a bit as well as three or four of my Parker 10’s . Actually killed a doe last week with a circa 1891 Parker EH 10 gauge with factory original 28” damascus barrels (only made 70 or so of those with that barrel length in that Grade) shooting my handloaded homecast 0000 Buck . Twenty six yards boom flop . FWIW I have a circa 1881 W&C Scott hammerless 10 gauge my maternal grandfather acquired her n 1946 or 47 . He killed a veritable pickup load of hawks with that gun back in the 40’s thru 60’s . I’ve since picked up pre 1897 W&C Scott hammerless in 12 and 20 that are also damascus. The 12 and 20 look pretty much unused .

I’ve got several friends that are big on the RST shells for their non fluid steel doubles . They make pretty decent low pressure shells but to me the cost is a bit prohibitive .

Congratulations on the Parker...
It breaks my heart to think of the beautiful and sound Damascus barreled Parkers that I resleeved for Westley Richards American customers.

Sika, what a lovely double. I'd be on cloud nine having that Parker lying across my lap.

Six, bro, PM me your address and I will send you some targets that don't have masking tape or cinnamon sprinkled all over them.

Not cinnamon but rather dirt spatters . And thanks for the offer !Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:05 pm Six, bro, PM me your address and I will send you some targets that don't have masking tape or cinnamon sprinkled all over them.

I was at the gun club today shooting skeet . Shot three rounds with my new to me 16 and one round with this old lifter . The old lifter held up her part of the bargain but I steered her wrong three times out of 25 . For a first round a 22 of 25 while not spectacular isn’t so bad .

Re: Oh heck I did it again !
I haven’t used the bore/choke gauge to find out the nominal bore and points of constriction but I’m of the opinion that this gun is somewhat open .

Re: Oh heck I did it again !
I switched up today and have the 10 gauge lifter with me again and left the VH 16 at the house . I’m hoping to get in on a rabbit chase after deer season and possibly a Pheasent follow up a day or two after a tower shoot . And I’m vascillating whether to take my VHE 20 , VH 16 , EH 10 28” or this lifter 10 . Both of the 10’s from what I see are rather open , so I may take the EH of I go rabbit chasing and use the 16 for pheasents as it seems to be M/M . Also have a friend that has a Mountain Cur pup he’s training for tree rats and he wants to come over after deer season and get some tree rats , he also wants me to use a shotgun for the runners and he’ll use his CZ452 for rifle shots . If we do that I think I’m gonna use my grandfathers old circa 1881 W&C Scott hammerless 10 gauge that’s fuller and fuller yet ! I’ve killed deer , geese and dove with the old gun so may as well add a couple tree rats to the Talley . Grandfather killed a couple pickup loads of hawks with it back in the 50’s and 60’s . Lady who’s estate he worked on raised fighting chickens and she paid a $5 bounty on hawks back then .

Re: Oh heck I did it again !
Hey 6pt, try this for your open choked gun, cut a piece of plastic soda straw the length of your shot column, set the straw in the center of your wad then put shot around the straw. When the shot gets to the choke section the straw collapses and the pattern tightens up some. I've never tried it but was. Told about it from an old water fowler that did this to put lead inside the straw in his steel loads. He noticed that his patterns tightened some. Then with just a hollow tube even more- so he said.
