WINCHESTER 9422M ?

Any of you own a WINCHESTER 9422M

What are your thoughts and experiences, do they make a good tree rat gun

Heck yeah on both counts! Mine is very accurate with Winchester Supreme 34 grain hollow points. It will rip a squirrel wide open, though, with that load, so you have to be careful where you shoot it. Shot a ground hog with that gun/load this summer at about 35 yards in the neck. It twitched a bit, but dropped right there!

I don't think I own an easier gun to carry. The .22 Mag is a potent round, too, and can be counted on in emergencies to do in more than a ground hog.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can use the 22 LR as well as the 22 Mag.
in this rifle?

I was thinking the 22 LR for tree rat, 22 Mag for turkey.

Is your's scoped?

You COULD, but the gun isn't designed for it. The .22 Mag chamber is larger diameter than the .22 LR. You can get a .22 LR to pop off in most any .22 Mag gun, but at the very least you will have blown out cases that are difficult to extract. Not a good idea.

For tree rats, you could us a 40 grain solid that would destroy less meat. Or, go for head shots.

I see they also have these in standard 9422 LR.

I SECOND THE MOTION, ANY 9422 (LR OR MAG) IS ACES IN MY BOOK. THE FIT, FINISH, AND ACCURACY ARE THE WAY ALL AMERICAN MADE ARMS SHOULD STRIVE FOR. TOO BAD WINCHESTER CLOSED, BUT THEN AGAIN THEY WERE GOING TO DISCONTINUE ALL FLAVORS OF THE 9422.

I'M GLAD I FINALLY PONIED UP THE $$$$. MINE IS A TRIBUTE MODEL IN 22 MAG. GREAT GUN AT ANY PRICE, I SHOULDN'T HAVE WAITED SO LONG.

Great rifles! If you could shoot LR in a Mag chamber, I wouldn't own one of each.

The XTR was a higher finish model. Went across several models.

My 9422 is a 76 vintage, and obviously not a magnum. I can't count how many rounds I've put through it.
Never a mechanical problem.
The ONLY work that's ever done on it was I had a gunsmith redo the front sight. The factory put it on tilted.

I hope to someday get a magnum version. One of each would be just the ticket.

Man, I don't know....I've got one of the last ones made and I'm just not that pleased with it. pee poor trigger and the two halves don't fit together very good. Accuracy is minute of rabbit at 100yds, but no better than that.....I'll prolly take it to the show one of these days and look for a trapper .357 to trade on.....

I've heard this before. I suspect that many of the last ones built were built with left over parts and just enough fitting to get them together.

Winchester (USRAC) made many mistakes over the last 25 years. But the worst of all was discontinuing the best lever action they made.

Oh well, the flailing of a dieing company I guess.

I had a 9422M and found it way too much gun for squirrels and cotton tails but perfect on foxes.
I have recently bought a 9422 LR made in 1972 and it is perfect in every way!

Mine is from the 70s as well. I bought it about a year before Winchester closed and all the used guns went sky-high in price. Paid around $275 for it. Has some light pitting in places from bad storage, but shoots great. I've had a chance since then to pick up another 94/22M of the same vintage and slept too long on it and someone else grabbed it. Much as I like my Marlin 39As, I'd love to find a 70s vintage 9422 in LR.

Thanks for that picture, that brought back a memory for me.
When I was in my early teens I thought those Land Rovers
were about the coolest vehicle on the planet.
All my friends thought the mussel cars of the 60â€™s were it.
Not me, guess I was just weird as my sister always seemed to think.

Give some .22 WRFs a try. My 9422M Trapper loves them. More like a Long Rifle Plus P than a magnum lite. Same case as a WMR except for being a tenth of an inch shorter. Cycles and feeds flawlessly.
