Life can be very cruel
Hi fellas -
Sorry I haven't been around much; this week has been a one I'd like to forget.
I got a frantic call from my sister Wednesday morning, very early. She was sobbing; our cousin had fallen down a flight of steps at her home, and was rushed to the hospital. Off I went.
Come to find out that sometime between 9:00pm and 11:00pm this must have happened. We know the bookends because she was on the phone with one of her good friends around 9:00pm, and stated that she was going to grab a drink of water and head to bed, and that her husband (A CMPD officer) should be home around 11:00pm.
He did get home around that time, but couldn't open the front door, only to find out it was her body blocking it. He called 911, and they rushed her to the hospital by ambulance. She had suffered severe head trauma, and had no brain activity when they arrived.
It's bad enough that a freak accident claimed the life of someone so young (she would have been 48 on 11/26/2018), but this is the younger sister of my cousin we lost in August to cancer. Her Mom, my Aunt, has lost two daughters in less than four months. My cousin (the middle child) has lost two sisters. And just for fate to twist the knife one more time, Wednesday was my Aunt's birthday. She was already going to have to deal with her first birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas without her daughter; now she gets to do so without both of them.
I've always cautioned my kids that "life is not fair". I didn't warn them that it could also be so cruel.
Fortunately, my cousin, a pediatric nurse her entire adult working life, was an organ donor. We're hoping that for one who gave so much throughout her life, this final act of giving saves several others.
Please pray for the soul of my cousin, for her Mom, brother, husband and daughter - as well as her extended family and friends. We are all still in shock.

So sorry to hear that Jay....
Yes, life CAN be cruel and not fair -- but there ARE also moments of wonder, of LOVE and of beauty that we need to embrace.
Otherwise... We'd all be getting a rapid ingestion of lead poisoning...
In Maine, they say "You can't get the summah if you can't take the wintah..."
And in life, yes, there is bad or cruel -- but there is also good or awesome!!!
Sometimes life DOES get out of balance, yes, but one must not lose their FAITH or their spirit.
And it's not easy, I know... Sorry to drone on....
Prayers up for you and your family my friend.

Yes, but the next sentence has to be "And that's why we need to cherish every hello, every phone call, each tender touch, every holiday, each moment, etc. etc." so there is balance.Ysabel Kid wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 7:16 pm I've always cautioned my kids that "life is not fair". All -
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. The family was not able to hold the funeral until last Tuesday (11/20). Mainly due to the need to line up the proper recipients for her organs. One of the few consolations in all of this was knowing that several families had the best Thanksgiving they have had in years... or perhaps a lifetime.
The funeral was moving. My cousin's husband is a LEO, in the Bomb Squad. About 35-40 officers attended the funeral, half or more from the Bomb Squad. My wife commented that though she feels safe at our church with me on the Safety Team leadership, having 35+ armed LEO's made her feel extraordinarily safe!
Yesterday would have been my cousin's 48th birthday. Today would have been my father's 83rd. Life goes on, we make the best of it, and just hold those left a bit closer. And thank God for friends like you all who offer their prayers and support when the chips are down.
This is simply the finest place on the web. You are all the best!

Prayers from Oregon. We may think life is unfair, but that's what is seen with our eyes. God may have a better idea...
Last week we lost my wife's grandson, 31 years old, in a boating accident. When speaking to our Pastor, one thing he mentioned was "Our God is a God of Comfort". That helped ease our hearts...
