Jeweled Parts
Ok, I finally got it done. Several years ago I saw a picture of a mdl 94 Winchester with jewelled carrier and guides... I fell in love. Not counting disassembly and re-assembly, here's 20 minutes of work:
I LIKE IT! Might not be the prettiest of patterns, but with just hand holding the parts, I'm very pleased. Side of the hammer on this project rifle are next.
(Sorry about the slight blur to the pic... a flash washes out the pattern, and w/o the flash, I can't hold the camera very steady in the ambient light). But I hope you get the concept.

No worries Griff! It looks nice none the less!
What did you use for a brush? I've heard that a pencil with a fresh eraser works in place of a jeweling brush.

Great job Griff! My buddy did a 94 like that once. It was really cool.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

And to beat primers into submission... or is that emission?
Thanks, If the kid doesn't like it, I'll keep the rifle for myself. .30-30, pistol grip, ¾ mag, ½-oct/rnd 26" bbl., tang peep and Lyman 17A front sight... Hope to get the wood in the next few weeks.

Re: Jeweled Parts
Sounds like a looker! The one my buddy did was a 1907 SRC that he had redone for himself. It had a lot of panache. Wouldn't have minded owning it, but it got away from both of us.
Post up some pics of the whole thing when you can, Griff.

Re: Jeweled Parts
I think the best word to describe that is "snazzy". While not for all guns, it does have its place on certain parts. I like the hammer. Does it wear off easily?----6
Re: Jeweled Parts
Nice setup Griff. My buddy did his with an old Rockwell drill press.

Re: Jeweled Parts
It looks great Griff. Somewhere I have drawings to make jeweling brush.
Six the wear should be minimal, and it helps hold lubricant on the microscopic level which also reduces friction.
The O/U 12 ga that I 'built' I jeweled the internals. No one but me has seen that jeweling since I put the stock on it 25 years ago!

Re: Jeweled Parts
Looks good to me. I once did some small parts and uses a pencil, eraser side down in a drill press, with some fine valve grinding compound. Worked OK and I did about 4 or 5 parts about the size of 1/2 of a dollar bill...

Very, very nice, Griff.
I tried that back in High School Shop Class. It didn't turn out very good.

Re: Jeweled Parts
Nice ! Brownells sellers a tool called Cratex (sp.?) and a special holder to put in your drill. It's like a pencil eraser with grit already imbedded into it and extra long. The holder lets you adjust how much sticks out. I have one but haven't used it in years. Don't even know exactly it is ???

Re: Jeweled Parts
As you can see from the pics below, this little Combat Commander has seen a hard life. It was an insurance replacement for one that was stolen in 1982. It's been carried as a duty gun in several assignments, from UC, plainclothes, mounted and harbor patrol, plus for the last several years as my CCW. It's earned that finish wear honestly... It's usual home is in a Milt Sparks' Summertime Special that I had custom made back in 1972. And still being used... yes, it looks as tired as the .45!
