POLITICS - The Black Widow strikes again

Post by Rusty »

Call it an omen? I don't know what it is but I was reading the blog of Jamie Dupree who is a Capital Hill Reporter for Cox the other day and I read the following...

Fear And Loathing At The Kentucky Derby

With the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, I can't resist writing a little something about it, especially since there is a little political angle to it as well.

Hillary Clinton actually made a pick for the Derby on Thursday, as she zipped into Louisville, KY for a quick meeting with supporters.

Her choice was the filly Eight Belles, who breaks from post position #5 and is 15-1 in the morning line.

(Let's give some kudos to the staffer who realized that she needed to know which horse to pick. Can you imagine the howls of outrage if Clinton had rumbled into Louisville two days before the Derby and not known the name of ANY horse in the field?)

No filly has won the Derby since Winning Colors in 1988.

Eight Belles has won her last four races, including three straight at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas, marked by a narrow win in the Grade II Fantasy Stakes.

Her speed figures are a bit lower than the favorite, Big Brown, who will start from the far outside post. (Only one Derby winner has come from post position 20, FYI.)

Now the Derby might not be of interest to some of us I was at an Outback Restaurant Sat. evening when they were running it myself. My wife and I were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary.

I just saw on the local news what some of you might already know, Eight Bells the only philly in the field had to be put down. Eight Bells also had to be put down after the race.

Is it me or does anyone else see the strangeness in this?

Rusty, I watched the race Saturday and that little mare sure had the heart, she was really after that lead horse when he started stretching out.It is to bad that the thoroughbred has been bred up to the point that they have these kind of problems. Look what happened to the quarter horses when they bred the Impressive line in them.
Reckon Clinton even knew what happened to the mare?

If Hillary has an accident and breaks her legs, the unfortunate part is that it won't shut her mouth. I feel sorry for what happened to Eight Belles. I like animals, not just the tasty ones.

Agreed! I was at a range Saturday and someone had shot up a photocopy of Hillary's face. My son showed it to me, and I commented that it was that kind of thing that gave us a bad name, gave the anti's "ammunition" (pun intended) to use against us, and was likely to get someone an up-close and personal visit from the Secret Service.

Of course, if the Secret Service had to investigate every wise crack made at Hillary's expense, we'd need to hire a few million more of them!

Dear Secret Service - please note, the above was made by a law-abiding citizen enjoying and practicing his First Amendment rights - no threat made or implied. And come on - you know it's funny!

Wasn't "Belle" on the list of witnesses to one of Hill and Bills lawsuits?
