New Guide Gun
Here is a picture of my new Guide Gun stainless in .45-70. I am waiting on the dies to arrive from Midwayusa. I am thinking of using 350 grain bullets and pushing them around 1700fps. Has anyone got any suggestions what brand of bullets and what powder? I want to enjoy shooting this one.

I think they put the stock on upside down on that one... if'n you want to send it to me, I can use it for parts. I'll pay postage.
Looks like a sweet gun. I'm strongly considering using the 'stimulus' check for one, if there's some leftover after the regular bills.

I use 54 gr. of H322 under the 300 gr. bullets for 1800+ fps from 22-24 inch barrels. Accurate as well as giving good load density.
PS You could have a much more compact photo with just a bit of editing.

Thanks Hobie. Is that with a gas check on the bullet, or does it need one at that velocity?

I'd use a gas check on a cast bullet. I'm using jacketed bullets.piller wrote:Thanks Hobie. Is that with a gas check on the bullet, or does it need one at that velocity?

The most "fun" with a 45-70 for me is a 405-425 grain cast bullet over 13 grains of Unique.

That's a nice guide gun, I have one just like it as well but I have a simmons 3-9x40 scope on it though,This past season I shot a deer with it and when I went to go and recover the deer I noticed I had shot two deer with one shot I didn't mean to do that but next time i'll make sure no other deer are behind my intended target. That just proves how powerful the 45-70 cartridge really is. Oh yeah the bullet by the way was the federal blue box kind 300grain hollowpoint.I took pic of my guide gun today to post and share with you guys but I have no idea how to post pictures.
