When you have a chance, put a little grease under all the metal...buttplate, screws, under barrel, etc....I started to see some rust on my Shiloh after awhile after no exposure to elements.
(I'm partial to Fluid Film grease....YMMV)

While I'm not disagreeing with you , if it were mine I'd shoot the heck out of it .
I think I like the looks of the 1877 action more then the others . Certainly more then the 1875 or 1878 . Not that there's anything wrong with either of them just a personal preference .

Oh "if it were mine" it most certaionly would be taken up a tree to pot a few defenseless man eating Virginia whitetails .
