Coyote # ???
Just popped this gal off the backyard fence... well actually, saw from the kitchen window, and grabbed the (go figure) .30-30. Out thru the garage to and turned so I could back with the rifle downrange and spotted her just inside the backyard. Upon spotting me, she turned, ran and didn't get far!
Pretty good sized coy-dog
1979 Winchester .30-30 Carbine. {Edited: Just looked at the empties a little closer, the rounds were Remington Core-Lokt 150 factory stuff, my apologies. When I unloaded to clean, the other 4 were my Sierras... guess I just stuffed those two in from a new box from the last coyote that bit the dust}. I hit a little aft of amidships, but high enough that gettin' up again wasn't an option. Another thru the head finished it.

Greetings and Congradulations on this public service act with a 30-30.
Yard jumpers will only become more brazen and one day will start viewing your hide with salivating glands. Those rascles are a plague here in east ILL. They will eat anything not protected by a larger preditor in sight. But does make for some good hunting and calling.

I'm envious, you can shoot them in your backyard. We've got, near as I can tell three, adult and two smaller ones, running the canyon behind my place. No shooting allowed here. I wonder if a bow would be legal. Gotta look into that.

Fur, Fish & Game has monthly fur prices.
A guy could make bacon and beans on coyote hides where I live in New Mexico.
The dogs are big, and heavily furred, bringing the prime price.
I used to do it myself untill like Valdez said " before I know better "

Re: Coyote # ???
Griff, I'm about 15 miles south of you outside Forney. I can hear the 'yotes pretty often when I go outside at night, and my wife saw one a few houses down from us the other night. Too bad I can't shoot 'em in my neighborhood.....
On a side note, I saw a pretty good sized bobcat at the doctor's office in Plano the other day. Surprised the heck out of me.

Did it have an appointment or was it a walk-in?

I suppose it was a walk-in. It walked right by the window while I was in the office.

Re: Coyote # ???
So you buy an EBR with 30 round clip. So instead of blooding it, you grab a 30/30 and use it instead priceless
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

But, in fact, the EBR was unloaded, both mags inside ammo can, one empty, the other with 10 rnds of 62gr HPBT match Hornady. NOW there's 1 mag in the safe with rifle with Federal 55gr polymer-tipped varmit loads. The 30-30 is maintained in "ready" state!
BTW, my son, (picture taker), said, "... that .30-30 doesn't do anywhere near the damage the .375 Win Marlin does!"

Good job. Any coyote dead is a good coyote.
Re: Coyote # ???
Wow. So many responses to respond to...
First... Well done Griff... and with a .30-30. You go.
Second... Got extra coyotes but can't shoot... Airgun?
Third... There aren't many things I like to hear more than I like hearing the song-dogs howl. When I used to hunt down north of Terlingua in the Big Bend area, it was just the most serene experience you can imagine. Sitting by the camp fire, moon coming up over the eastern mountain starting to wash over the desert, and a coyote would start to sing, and then another, and then another. I miss that.
I'm living in the 'burbs and can't legally shoot, but I walk our local park early in the morning before the sun comes up, and I see coyotes running cross the lawns every day. I've started walking my new pup in the morning and I imagine he looks like an easy meal. They never bother me when I walk alone (we've done the eye-to eye thing many times) but with the pup I imagine it's different math in their minds. I usually carry my LC9, but like most places it's illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits. Rick Perry got away with it, I wonder if I'd be so lucky.
LOL... I just noticed that the OP is like 5 years old.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

Re: Coyote # ???
Some coyotes probably need killing. I don't think that all do; they can add a lot to the evening over a smokey campfire. Looks like a full-blood coyote to me.
Re: Coyote # ???
Song dogs can be important to the environment. When they are few in numbers they prey on rodents and such. In larger numbers they start preying on more diverse animals, from cats to pet dogs to cattle. As humans have the capability to keep the coyote population in numbers small enough to be beneficial, then it is a good idea to do our part. It is unlikely that we could ever eradicate them. Coyotes are smart and can live almost anywhere.

Good on ya Griff. those things are pests no doubt about it. If some of y'all live in areas where it's against the law to shoot them you really should consider an air rifle. It still might not be within the law but with a suppressed air rifle who would know? A .25 cal air rifle packs a lot of punch and will work quite well.
