Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Been dreading this job for a while but we got the wheel off today, now waiting on a tire changing machine and will update on how it works.
Bike lift sure is nice though.

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
I used a 2” thick rope and huge tree branch to hold my bike up in the air while I went to get rear tire changed! So yes a bike stand is awesome.

Good job bud. Bet the lift makes it nice. I have a bike jack for mine. Helps some.
Wish I had a lift for the Jeep. Been rolling around under that for about two weeks as time allows.

Tire machine ?
I used to change my motorcycle tires with a set of tire irons a rubber mallet - it just not that hard, as long as some soapy water in a spray bottle is used on the bead(s) for lubrication.
Git 'er done, Len ! .

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Thanks guys, i have done it that way all my life Pete but i`m getting older and getting down on the floor is getting harder.
The changer is a cheap hand model so don`t know how it will work out it does have a bead buster on it.
These new model tires fit pretty tight so need all the help i can get.
A tip for you guys with softails, if ya take the axle nut off and adjuster ring then push the axle in about 1 1/2 inches . The shaft is smaller where the threads are and move ahead enough to roll the belt off the pulley then ya don`t loose the adjustments when ya put it back on.

My local motorcycle shop charges me $25 to put a new tire on if I bring the wheel in. I wont mess with possibly hurting the rim for that price.

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
That lift looks exactly like mine. Works a treat. I'm usually taking the back wheel off to change the belt on son Hap's bike. My old one has a chain, well then your's does too, huh? The iron head sporty is in the lift right now and has been for a year or so. Haven't done much since all that cuttin' on me last summer and fall.

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Everything is better in the fall!
I don't ride motorcycles, but do fish and ride horses. My wife and I have learned we do not do well in the sun anymore, so despite sunscreen, hats, ansunshirt, and now a suntube for the neck and face, fishing in the altitude here(5000' or more), bright sun, and water reflection, just makes it uncomfortable! Plus our shih Thu, Bailey, desires shade! A Bimini top was ordered and on the way, to provide shade while we are trolling. Even our big flat cowboy hats don't help anymore while on the horses, so waiting on fall. Funny though it has been a cool summer, been in the 50's at night, so suspecting that aging may be entering into it?
Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Got the tire changer today and glad i did there is no way we could of got the tire off on the floor, got it aired up now waiting to be sure it doesn`t leak. tubeless.
Also ya have to remove the belt pulley to mount it.

Hey that's pretty slick looking gizmo!
I never liked riding on the hot, humid days around here either. My bike always got a lot more use in the fall.

Nice! Yup, there is no way I'm gonna do it by hand. My bike has a 200 rear tire and its pretty stiff. Don't want to stave up my 6" wide chrome spoked wheel!
Next time I need a tire, I'll have to ride out and have you change it buddy! Course, it'll be half wore out by the time I get back home.
Glad it worked well, Lenn!

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Well, I shoulda been working on the Jeep.......but it was just too perfect a day for a ride. Air was clear as a bell, just cool enough for leather and be comfortable. Rode 270 miles through the mountains, over into NH to the White mountains, up the edge of the river and back into Maine to Rangeley. Then back through the mountains home. Perfect.
Crappy pic, but I promised one, Lenn.
Saw way better but couldn't stop.

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Yeah, it's getting long for me on the ole Softail. Buckin wind and eatin bugs. Wouldn't have it any other way!
It's tougher now but I still want to feel like I'm riding.
Did 450 miles in 8 hours a few years ago but I don't see me doing that again real soon.
Didn't figure 270 was bad after working all night.

Yepper, was gonna say keep them snug against rack cuz when you hit bumps they like to flop and bend it in towards wheel/spokes.

Pitchy is that one of the HF lifts? If so how do you like it? I've been thinking about buying one someday.
Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
I think so i bought it on Ebay for 300 delivered but i think ya can buy coupons and get one cheaper yet.
So far i like it fine except for the front wheel chock it needs to be higher as it won`t hold the bike good enough until ya get it strapped but i think they sell a better chock also.

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
I don't really trust those front wheel chocks and would ad some eyebolts and use a couple of ratchet straps before I even began to jack it up.
Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
Me either, i strap it with ratchet straps before it leaves the floor.
My point about the chock is its hard to hold the bike while putting the straps on takes two people.
The lift comes with eye bolts.

Re: Well i got the wheel off anyway.
I've got the harbor freight unit and they usually have them for $300 a couple times during the year. I have 5-2X10's maybe about 20" long all screwed together in a stack, and that chunk of lumber is slid up against the lift so that once I roll that front wheel into that clamp I can flick the kickstand out and it lands on that stack of lumber. Then I can get off the bike and get the straps in place. After that I just ratchet it snug.
