Of late, despite MalwareBytes, I get pop-up ads that interrupt non-web activities, and now they even come on, complete with audio, when the phone is turned OFF....
I was sneaking up on one of my dogs today to see what she was stalking, and all of a sudden loud music blasts on, and an ad for rain-gutters or some such has come on.
If it would have been something important, or perhaps dangerous, I could have been more than just irritated...
What the heck can you do to stop that stuff if MalwareBytes won't stop it...?
....aside from a bullet through the CPU....

Wow that's odd! I've never heard of a phone doing anything like that.
Do you have a cleaning app? Might be worth downloading.
Or uninstall each and every app then re install.
When I got a new Samsung I avoided Google as my search engine because of all the ads. Most times the ads were for stuff I already owned! I'm using DuckDuckGo search engine and NO ADS,
I also use cleaner every day.
Make sure your contacts are backed up, along with photos and other things you don't want to loose. Do a factory reset, taking it back to "factory new" as far as the system goes. Carefully restore it program by program, paying attention to which ones use adds to pay for their development and avoiding them as much as possible. I've NO idea what you might have installed that'd be that intrusive, but doing a complete restore is a good idea occasionally, even when the phone's running good. It's a good chance to clean out stuff you no longer use and make SURE that uninstalled programs are completely gone.

Doc,
Why play around?......shoot the damm thing......I shot 2 alarm clocks after I retired....$400 digital camera.....a toaster, microwave and a few tv's back in the day. I like a 12 ga. with # 8 shot. I even shot a lawnmower with a BP cannon.
Probably why I'm the only person in the family with no cell phone, I don't deal well with aggravation.----6

Make sure about your contacts and photos being saved. My Verizon account backs up contacts every day.

Just so. I was issued one for work, but 4 or 5 years ago I got rid of mine and
haven't replaced it. I'm not real fond of continued aggravation either. One might
be useful when I'm on the road, but I'm not yet convinced that it's worth the initial
expense and the ongoing monthly fees.

So Six you started the Home owner Slam but you didn't finish it...
The home owner slam- you have to shoot every home appliance in a year. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, tv, refrigerator/freezer, water heater,microwave/oven,vcr/DVD player, stereo/cd player/alarm clock, etc. However each must be witnessed and documented!
Well after my dumb phone fell in the toilet, my wife got me a smart phone. Problem was it was too smart and did things I didn't want or need to do. I had my granddaughter turn off everything except the phone and text messaging. I don't need Google, internet, data, etc., etc., etc.
Last week I was sitting down beside my hotrod welding up headers and I sat on the cell phone and broke the screen. Wife went out and got another too smart phone, and even smarter than the last phone! So now I have to get the granddaughter to turn off all sorts of stuff so I wont get bothered by it too!
