bear attacks just out side anchorage
one of our receptionist's brother-in-law failed to return from a hike yesterday, just near here. a group of his friends went up the same trail looking for him today......a brown bear mauled one of them, severe leg injury. other searchers found the missing man, who had been mauled and partly consumed ....presumably by this bear !
I don't know if he or any of them were armed......... if not, that's the same as not wearing your seat belt, you know, because statistically you almost never really need it...
really sad around here.

So sorry for your loss.
That's scary, my wife and I are headed to Alaska this September and are really looking forward to hiking.

And the recent bear through kitchen window caught on security camera, another bear locking itself in a car, police officer breaks window AND Boo-Boo through my yard yesterday afternoon, not a care in the world that people were watching it. Then it decided to come back last night for a go at the bird feeders.

Apex critter. Their only concern is people, and they know where and when they can be hunted.GunnyMack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 22, 2018 10:50 am And the recent bear through kitchen window caught on security camera, another bear locking itself in a car, police officer breaks window AND Boo-Boo through my yard yesterday afternoon, not a care in the world that people were watching it. Re: bear attacks just out side anchorage
Actually our bears here have NO fear of man unless they are getting fire crackers & bottle rockets tossed at them( by me)!
Just spoke with my neighbor, his trail cam has pics of a sow with a new cub, she is nursing it and hung around for an hour. And he also had a bigger (275-300 lbs) that walked a big circle around his house to my shop then disappeared.
Bears here are thick as thieves anymore!

Oh and our bear season is in December!

Re: bear attacks just out side anchorage
Bear season in December? If the idea is to prevent hunting, then it makes sense. Here in Texas, it is still warm enough in December that hibernation is not necessary for much of anything, but I haven't heard of bears in this area.
