Tiger Swallowtails used to be numerous here in Oregon when I was a kid. Love seeing them, but they seem to have disappeared for the last 30 plus years. Unsure why they went away. They're beautiful!
I would hazard a guess that due to changes in farming and ranching practices, a loss of habitat and food is the reason for the decline in numbers.
We used to see lots of them when we planted Zinnias. I love the colors of Zinnias. PillHer doesn't care much for them. She prefers low growing plants.

That there is one purty butterfly. MOstly we get Monarchs here. Still it's a treat anymore. Seems there were many more when I was a kid.

Haven't seen any of those here yet but the other morning I had a Lunar Moth hanging on the side of the house. Few hours later just the wings were left, I guess a bird snagged it to feed its babies.
Thanks Lenn. Love seeing those around as well as our hummingbirds. The honeysuckle is rampant here this year. Don't remember it ever being this abundant. Hummers are just using the flowers and not swarming our feeders. 10 year old Granddaughter was catching butterflies yesterday. Had some tiny ones too.

That`s the first one of those I`ve ever seen, Monarchs are plentiful but have only seen one of those.
Humming birds are hitting the feeders heavy.

Love all the swallowtails. Used to see a lot of tigers and zebras as a kid growing up in Oregon's Willamette Valley -- along with monarchs and morning cloaks.
