Just for kicks, you're preparing for something big. The Zombies are coming, an EMP, Dirty Bombs, whatever. What pistol do you want at your side at all times?
I recently got to fondle an H&K MK23 and got me thinking about heavy duty auto pistols. We'll leave the rifles and shotguns for another discussion.
You can pick from what you already have and pocket the cash or run to the Super Store for something new if someone just handed you $2000.

I have most of the guns I need ... er want. If I had $2K I'd rent a truck, fill it with as much of my important stuff I could and I'd run like crazy for the open desert out west.
That way I could see the zombies coming a long way off and use my rifles.

Im a die hard 1911 guy BUT ive recently fallen in love with my Sig 229 Legion RX. It is every bit as accurate as my Wilson Supergrade plus holds 15 rounds. The micro red dot is an awesome upgrsde as well.

If you like the P229 you should try the P210, not the newer American made the older the better or older a Sig M49.
I remember the first Sig imports through Hawes in CA back in the 70's, honestly the finish was like old aluminum siding and it was "chalky".
Since shooting these modern gizmo's I've changed my thinking to a meat and potatos S&W M&P or a Glock 9. These guns eat up everything without a hitch as do my Model A Uzis......everything in 9mm.

A few years ago it would be a 1911 in 45.

Keep is simple.---6
I'm also a fan of the 9mm but not a fan of striker fired or guns with safeties.
Some of the new guns have trigger safety, magazine safety, grips safety, and manual safety.
I like the Sig motto if you don't want it to fire don't pull the trigger.
Zombies are already dead... so, call 'em softened up... for $2,000 I could buy a ton of lead... 2,000 x 7,000 = 14,000,000 / 200 = 70,000 projectiles...
That'd make a dent in the zombies...

No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
RIA 10mm in the 1911 style, lots of Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat magazines purchased from Nighthawk custom. Some new Wolf springs in a poundage to be determined after a little research. I wouldn't think that the full power loads would always be necessary. A little hotter than .40 S&W should work just fine. The mid range loads from a .41 Magnum had a good reputation as man stopping rounds, and the 10mm can duplicate that power level without any trouble. The magazines mentioned above can hold 9 rounds. Not high capacity, but not bad.

I've owned exactly one Sig. It wouldn't even go "bang" when you pulled the trigger. What a piece of Pelosi. I'll never own another, let alone trust my life to it.

I have never seen the point of wasting too much lead and powder on Zombies, the ones on the TV are easily put out of action with a pocket knife in the skull. So surely a .22 between the Zombies eyes would be enough. In which case I'd buy something I like the look of instead of an overly engineered piece of space age kit.
The Uberti 12 shot .22lr SAA with a 3.5 barrel would do me fine plus leaving me with nearly $1500 to spend on ammo...
Of course if the threat was something other than Zombies I might just go for an overly engineered space age piece of kit , my big problem living in England is where I would find either.
If any Zombies are reading this, I do have four spare mags for my semi auto Magtech carbine...
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

Which?
The non-polymer strikers P2.. line are second to none.
There's simply not a better firearm made then the old Swiss/German SigSauer P210/M49. As a carry no, but if you want to hit something....
Sheesh, I've already got them. For Zombies
For all others
Although I'd prefer my leftie Randall, parts would be harder to come by.

Looks like a leaning towards the .45ACP/ 1911 which is no big surprise for this group. That's where I ended up as well, with my Colt National Match, until I got my Bowen SBH back. Just wouldn't be able to leave it behind now.
So, lets open it up a bit. Pick yourself a backup and/or outfit your significant other with something from your battery or the original $2k if you didn't spend it on something new. This way I can hang on to the Colt and Blondie can pack the G19. My thinking, if the bad times this increases the chances of finding additional ammo, parts and magazines. I wouldn't think one would have to travel far to find a box of 45's, 9mm's or Glock and 1911 magazines. The .44 is strictly for Style Points!

First off they will starve most out and many will turn they're guns in for food, until then I`ll carry two 1911 Colts and a XDs to fend off those trying to steel my food supply.

There's the reality. Without power to run the necessities, society will collapse within months, maybe weeks. The elderly and ill will pass within days without their medications. The riots will start and our "polite little world" will disappear to be run the strongest and those willing to kill for what they think they need to survive. How many people do you know that have the knowledge and abilities to survive as if the world was thrown back to 1800's? Not many. Those of us that hang out on this site are more aware and prepared than most, I'd think. Still, it wouldn't be easy. The monsters will be at the gates someday.

I believe it if the gov. is responsible all they have to do is shut down transportation and the store shelves go empty in three days.
The hard core that live in the country will survive the longest but in the end the commies will take over.
He!! the deep state is already talking about going after Hannity at least that`s what I read and could believe it.
This may be off the wall to some but I believe we could be in the last days and the AC will be coming on the scene before long.
God said He will place a strong delusion upon the earth that even the elect will be deceived ( Israel ) and just look how deceived half this country and the world is.

As noted above, "How many people do you know that have the knowledge and abilities to survive as if the world was thrown back to 1800's...?"
On top of THAT, trying to live Amish-style, when the gang-bangers and hordes of armed looters are trying to kill you and steal your stuff....
None of is could fend off a daily assault by a steady stream of a dozen new crazy looters day after day, much less practice our 'Foxfire' series living skills while doing so. It would take high-technology, or a dozen trustable and trained guards in rotation 24/7 to even protect most homestead perimeters.
The best places would be not only remote rural ones with climates survivable and terrain defensable, but ALSO ones with small, close-knit, spiritually-linked communities. ......kind of like the Old Days - pretty timeless concepts, eh.....???
It's 2025 - "Cutesy Time is OVER....!" [Dan Bongino]
When these sort of threads become scenario debates they get can messy. "it will be warlords on horseback, not marauders in 4x4" etc.
sticking to easy stuff, choice of guns...if its to be only gun allowed, any 6" barrel 357 magnum.
If its just backing up my rifle , then any 22LR auto. 22LR is cheaper and 5x lighter than centrefire, the only thing you can bugout 1000rds on foot. I'll still have stockpiles to headshoot zombies and small game when the 1911 guys are throwing rocks.
The wife is quite happy with her Colt SAAs in .357 and matching Rossi 92. Tho' she says her time will be better spent loading up my .30-30s and magazines my son & I ARs & 1911s.

I see folks talk about living off the land, or defending what they have stored. But here's the question you need to ask. How far would you go to keep you and yours alive? Would you become a "taker" to keep your family fed?
I know my answer, and it wouldn't sit well with those that think they can live off the land and keep what they have. Even though I've planned and prepared, planning and preparation will only go so far and last so long.

There's the deal. You either go full Viking Mode to keep your family alive or be eaten by the savages. People like to think we've evolved past that kind of behavior but in all reality we're about 30 days from absolute chaos.
Sooo, let's hope the Gob'ment keeps updating the infrastructure and the worst doesn't happen. A Global collapse is less likely (hopefully) than a regional event, so we do what we can to anticipate a temporary crisis. Katrina taught us a lot about how feeble a Gv't response will be. We're on our own guys, it's best to be prepared. Food, medicine, guns and ammo, and a plan to ride out a few weeks. Most people aren't, but those are the people that believe that help is just a phone call away. These are the same people that won't last a week.
Guess I've been a bit fatalistic lately. On the brighter side, my favorite Sport Shop had a sale on Smith & Wesson M&P's. Picked up a 5"', FDE, 2.0 9mm for $ 429! Gotta keep up the reserves!

If you can't carry it on your back or in your hand, it will get you killed. Mobility, stealth, and a willingness to walk away from your stuff before it's too late is the key.
Dead snowflakes as far as the eye can see will bring on the threat of disease. Game will be very scarce due to survivors hunting and increased human presence in game areas. The dead will bring an explosion in predator and scavenger populations. Weather will matter like never before. Clean, potable water will be impossible in some areas.
Guns? Right now I'm thinking my Chiappa Little Badger with a can and maybe my Glock 19 or Smith 66.
I'd spend the 2k on the best quality pack, boots, knife, and water filter I could find.
It won't be like the movies.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Another idea would be to upgrade the factory sights on my rifles. Nothing with batteries, for the most part.
Maybe a really good, accurate, quiet air rifle.
A couple thousand CB Longs or other stealth ammo for my 22s...I already have thousands of 22 LR rounds of various kinds.

A .22 (especially with subsonic and/or a can) is quieter than a compound bow. But as long as you retrieve your arrows (undamaged), you have reusable ammo on the bows.

I might just buy ammo for the several I already have and trust. ParaOrd 1911, G30S, .357 Blackhawk, 9mm Springer 1911 and a few others.
+1... though I'd be awfully tempted to get a Sig P226 Legion...
