Three brief hunt reports with pix

Post by crs »

The last two weeks included three hunting outings that were fun but hectic :

Report 1- Pheasant Hunt
I took my 17 year old grandson, Troupe, to Hidden Lakes to try his new Orion 12 gauge on live birds. This report has one pic and includes an email to a family friend, Joe, (aka 86er). Please feel free to read the entire thread as posted on the PGCA, Parker Gun Collectors Association forum.

Report 2 - Wild turkey hunt
This was the weekend just after our bird hunt; this was a youth hunt sponsored by the Christian Outdoor Ministry of SMP Global;
( https://www.smpglobal.org/outdoor-ministry ).
Troupe has taken deer and turkey on these SMP hunts for the last few years and this was his last as he will soon be 18 and too old. He has made some good friends on past hunts and this was no exception. This report thread is also on the PGCA forum and you are invited to read the entire thread of comments and pix.

Report 3 - Boars Galore - Hog hunt at the Boar's Nest in OK.
DWWC members have hunted hogs here for 15 + years and it is close to Dallas and only a 90 minute drive from the farm. I posted a pic on Leverguns of the 600 pound feral Duroc sow, Hogzilla shot there last year. I had a ten person hunt booked for late February, but it was washed out by 9 days of rain and the hunt was postponed until last Saturday, March 31, when only three of the original hunters could attend.

If you sharp eyed viewers think you saw two bullet entry holes in the dead Hampshire boar, you are correct. The higher of the two knocked him down, but he began squealing and thrashing about and because of free running hounds and other moving hogs in the area, I shot him again to shut him up. Unfortunately both front shoulders were too bloodshot to keep and had to be discarded(a recommendation from the lead girl guide who cleaned him). The .308 165 grain Hornady Super performance ammo made a mess of the bones and meat. Not bad off hand shooting, if I do say so myself. The first shot was at the running boar and the last was at it standing; both taken standing at a range of only 35 yards.
