My Last Retirement Toy
An Alaskan Camper 10' non-cabover. I pulled the trigger on getting this built. A little on the pricey side, but after looking for a year I never found a used one just like I wanted. These are made one at a time per customer order.
I could have gotten a nice trailer for less, but I want to be able to go into the forests and mountain where a trailer would be next to impossible to maneuver and get turned around. I got a few bells and whistles like bigger fridge and the solar charger with two batteries, power vents, LED lighting, hot water, and an outside shower. I've got my own Thetford Porta Potty I'll put in the cabinet they have for their own system.
It hydraulicly raises up for use and drops down to nearly cab level for travel. I don't think the 2000lbs it weighs will knock back my MPGs too much on my F-250. I may or may not get heavier springs...I'll see how the stock springs handle the weight, but the truck is rated for about a thousand pounds more than what this camper weighs....
Not real roomy but enough for a Man and his dog. Now, to save some gas money for this summer
I'll look forward to saying hi to some of you on my travels.

Nice, what the “running” weight of it.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

It looks like a nice rig for one guy and his dog. You'll learn to travel light but travel right. Everything must multi task. Congratulations!

I know, right? No one is used to seeing a truck that runs in your driveway.

Re: My Last Retirement Toy
One life regret is failing to get something like that when I had an opportunity to take two weeks to drive to Alaska, work there four weeks, then two weeks drive back. Young, resilient, married but no kids then. Scheduling issues led to a month of working at a local women's clinic instead, and having the extra time off to start building my house.
Anyhow - you'll have a TON of fun with that.....!

Nice. I’ve been lusting over the 8.5 cabover for sometime now.
Re: My Last Retirement Toy
You get more room in the cabover, but after I tested crawling up and getting back down I decided against it.

Re: My Last Retirement Toy
You'd fit right in here, nothing but Fords in the driveway. There is a Plymouth hidden in the garage and a Farmall hidden in the barn, rest of it is Fords.

Depending on gas money and health, I'll take as many road trips as I can.
Honestly? I'm sort of scared driving thru some of those northeastern states with my EDC

I hear that Blaine! You'd be good up here. Also NH, but it's like we're landlocked. Maine is constitutional carry, but most all the others are enemy territory. Now you see why I hate to travel. I feel like I'm on a different planet till I get down to ole Sixguns house.
I'd like to get out west someday. Stop by my buddy Pitchy's on the way out.

No, my Chevy's run fine... I'm just afraid it'll become the last resting place of another Ford... Which is in the barn, out of view...

Blaine, if you make it to Dallas, I will take you out to a nice little mexican restaurant just outside of Mansfield. The owners are from Mexico, and the food is great. You do like jalapenos, don't you?

Re: My Last Retirement Toy
More of my Dad's knowledgeable advice that I chose not to follow and now it's biting me in the butt. I decided that since so many others get by with half ton pick up trucks that I should be able to also. The drawback is that they aren't rated to handle the weight of a camper so I haven't been able to put one on my truck. I'd have a place to stay when going to gun shows in Anchorage or when fishing in Valdez or anywhere else I might want to try. I'll make sure my next 4x4 is a 3/4 ton.
Re: My Last Retirement Toy
that's no retirement toy, that's one very coool, getting out of dodge, and going off-grid vehicle...very nice... :)
