The S&W Model 340 .357 Magnum
I like this little gun ... easy to carry .. reliable .. speaks with authority ..
Screen captures of me shooting the Model 340 with 125 gr. JHP and 20 gr. WC820
Gun in Recoil
Recoil ended .. nice ring of fire on the backstop
Comparison .. firing Remington 125 gr. JHP factory load
Recoil is stout with maximum loads. Shoot a heavy recoiling sixgun for awhile and the little Smith won't bother you.

Looks like a handful - on both ends.

I had the opportunity to try a Brand "T" version of that little lightweight. Very unpleasant to shoot. Maybe with standard pressure Specials. It's sure easy to pack around.

Flamethrower! I agree with you, Jim -- maybe not the gun you'd want to burn 100 rounds at a go in plinking at tin cans, but anyone who is motivated can accustom himself over time to shoot it well, and maybe even enjoy it a little!
Re: The S&W Model 340 .357 Magnum
I'm guessin' that while it might fall short as an all-day plinker or target pistol, it probably shines in every other category.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I can see it now. A mugger arrives at the hospital in the ambulance with a hole in his chest which has been cauterized in front by whatever caused the large circular burn on his whole torso. The hole in the back has removed a pound of skin, meat, bone, lung tissue, and connective tissues. He dies while the hospital administrators are trying to figure out what sort of nuclear explosion caused the wounds.

I am thinking someone has one of the slow lot's of 820.
I wonder if 20 grs. of 296/H110 would give the same fire ball.
Pretty neat camera work all the same.
Thanks ----J

Not sure this lot is slow. Gives comparable velocities to H110 loads. Yep. H110 makes a nice fireball from he short barrel.

I have the 640. It's a little kicker for sure. I feel quite fine using .38 +P in mine. Magnums are a bit too much for me. One box of 140 gr. magnums leaves my hand sore for a day or more.
